About the role

Join Our Community of Food People! The Project Manager – Store Development will lead the end-to-end execution of retail store construction and renovation projects. This role manages multiple concurrent projects across various markets, ensuring delivery on time, within scope, and on budget, while collaborating with internal teams, vendors, architects, landlords, accounting, and general contractors to maintain quality and brand consistency.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all phases of remodels, store refurbishments, and facility maintenance projects.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans including timelines, budgets, scope, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with Real Estate, Store Operations, Merchandising, IT, and Finance to ensure alignment throughout project lifecycles.
  • Serve as primary liaison between the company and architects, engineers, general contractors, and other external partners.
  • Prepare estimates, submit capital project spend, and manage project budgets ranging from $5,000 to over $1 million.
  • Multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously; monitor costs against forecasts and provide project spend insight.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities without compromising brand standards.
  • Track and measure vendor performance on projects, providing direction on project standards and deliverables.
  • Ensure consistent quality control practices are in place and adhered to throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage permit approvals, inspections, and landlord coordination.
  • Conduct site visits to monitor progress and ensure adherence to specifications, codes, and company standards.
  • New Stores: Lead workstream coordination and management of all phases of new store builds, including overall timeline and execution planning.
  • Coordinate all workstreams (Real Estate, Construction, Legal, HR, Operations, Marketing, Merchandising, Asset Protection, Accounting/Finance, etc.) to deliver on-time schedules and openings.
  • Create and manage critical path schedules; proactively resolve delays and conflicts to keep projects on track.
  • Identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Produce and provide regular reporting on project status and financial impacts.

Supervision

This role has no direct reports.

Relationships

Internal: Interact with employees at all levels of responsibility throughout the company.

External: Interact with customers and service providers including general contractors and construction suppliers (fixtures/equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, signage, etc.).

Work Environment

Primarily indoors in a climate-controlled office environment. Operate office equipment including personal computer and phone. Exposure to moving mechanical parts; occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; and loud noise levels. May work in refrigerated and freezer areas with temperatures ranging from -10°F to 36°F.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five years of retail management or five years of related project management experience.
  • Proven track record managing multiple concurrent projects in diverse geographies.
  • PC proficiency.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, permitting processes, retail operations, and ADA/code compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, AutoCAD, or equivalent construction/project management tools.
  • Availability for overnight work and travel to new store sites.

Certifications/Training

Project Management Certification or similar certifications are desirable.

Education

Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Qualifications

Must be able to perform the described physical activities for the length of time required by the role.

Compensation

The expected base rate for this role is between $80,000 – $130,000, depending on relevant experience, education, specific skills, function, geographic location, and other applicable factors.
