Project Manager - Store Development - CHEF'STORE (Remote with Travel)
About the role
Join Our Community of Food People! The Project Manager – Store Development will lead the end-to-end execution of retail store construction and renovation projects. This role is responsible for managing multiple concurrent projects across various markets, ensuring all are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget. This position is virtual/remote (anywhere in the United States except Hawaii or U.S. Territories) with about 50% travel.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all phases of remodels, store refurbishments, and facility maintenance projects.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans including timelines, budgets, scope, and resource allocation.
- Collaborate with Real Estate, Store Operations, Merchandising, IT, and Finance to ensure alignment throughout project lifecycles.
- Serve as primary liaison between the company and architects, engineers, general contractors, and other external partners.
- Prepare estimates, submit capital project spend, and manage project budgets ranging from $5,000 to $1M+.
- Monitor all costs against forecasts, provide project spend insight, and identify value engineering opportunities without compromising brand standards.
- Track and measure vendor performance on projects, providing direction on project standards and deliverables.
- Ensure consistent quality control practices are in place and adhered to throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure permit approvals, inspections, and landlord coordination are managed appropriately.
- Conduct site visits to monitor progress and ensure adherence to specifications, codes, and company standards.
- For new stores: lead workstream coordination and management of all phases of new store builds, leading overall timeline and execution planning.
- Create and manage critical path schedules; proactively resolve delays and conflicts to keep projects on track.
- Identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Produce and provide regular reporting on project status and financial impacts.

Relationships
Internal: The incumbent interacts with all employees at all levels of responsibility throughout the company.
External: The incumbent interacts with customers and service providers including general contractors and construction suppliers (fixtures/equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, signage, etc.).
Work environment
Primarily indoors in a climate-controlled office environment. Operate office equipment including personal computer and phone. Employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions. Noise level is usually moderate but may occasionally be loud. Working in refrigerated and freezer areas where temperatures may range from -10°F to 36°F.
Minimum Qualifications
- Five years of retail management and/or five years of related project management.
- Proven track record managing multiple concurrent projects in diverse geographies.
- Must be PC proficient.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, permitting processes, retail operations, and ADA/code compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, AutoCAD, or equivalent construction/project management tools.
- Must be available for overnight work and travel to new store sites.
Certifications/Training
Project Management Certification or similar certifications are desirable.

Education
Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Physical Qualifications
Must be able to perform the physical activities described for the length of time required by the role.
Compensation
The expected base rate for this role is between $80,000 – $130,000.
