Preparation of Proposals
- Preparing proposals for projects for services for structural engineering projects that include cost estimates and timelines
- Performing site visits to inspect and assess existing mining infrastructure
Analysis and Design
- Performing analysis and design of steel structures and concrete foundations per the applicable codes and standards in the mining and heavy industrial sector
- Preparing sketches and collaborating with the designers to produce detailed drawings
- Collaborating with clients and other disciplines in developing the layout designs
- Preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications and scope documents
- Preparing and contributing to technical memos and reports, within areas of expertise
Detailed Working Drawings
- Undertaking the detailed working drawings of steel, concrete, wood and masonry
Review and Mentorship
- Reviewing junior staff’s technical work and coaching/mentoring EIT’s and Junior Engineers
- Ensuring all assigned projects are carried out per the scope, budget and schedule
Proposal Preparation and Post-IFC Services
- Participating and assisting in proposal preparations
- Performing post IFC services such as shop drawing reviews and field reviews
Document Stamping and Compliance
- Stamping documents and drawings as required and if appropriately registered
- Implementing the safety and integrity principles in structural documentation
EXP Standards Familiarity
- Becoming familiar with EXP standards
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized University
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is mandatory
Project Engineering and Design Experience
- Minimum 12+ years project engineering, design and construction experience in surface and underground mining
- Underground mining design experience
- Experienced with business development and proposals required
- Design and construction experience in heavy industry
- Experience in structural inspections and assessments
- Strong hands-on experience in the analysis and design of steel structures, reinforced concrete structures, building and heavy equipment foundations preferably in mining
- Experience in environmental structures considered an asset
Code and Standard Proficiency
- Proficiency in application of NBC, OBC and other relevant codes and standards
- Familiarity with Mine Health and Safety Regulations
Software Proficiency
- Proficiency in STAAD.Pro for Structural Analysis and Design
Computer Skills
- Strong computer-oriented skills (MS Office products, MathCAD etc.)
Personal Attributes
- Organized, self-motivated, pro-active, detail-oriented and have strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to function with minimal supervision
- Multi-tasking and ability to manage multiple projects and assignments
- Experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects
- Must be a team player and can work collaboratively with others
- Excellent problem-solving skills and critical thinking
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $110,000 to $150,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location. Compensation may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor.
