Project Manager - Power Delivery
WSP is seeking a Project Manager for our Power Delivery Project Management team in the Ohio region. The successful candidate may work from a mutually acceptable location within the region and must be able to travel to a WSP and/or Client office for periodic face-to-face meetings.
About the role
The successful candidate will provide high-level technical project leadership and guidance, managing the administrative, commercial, and technical components of assigned projects or portfolios in accordance with WSP’s core values and the level of project services agreed upon in the contract. Responsibilities include overall performance of moderate to large, complex, regional projects, with oversight for financial, technical, client satisfaction, quality, safety, and schedule aspects.
This role involves project management for the development, execution, control, and monitoring of high voltage and EHV Substation, Transmission, and Distribution projects in support of company, regional, and national business line goals. The position also addresses current and future project management challenges in a rapidly changing business and operational climate.
Responsibilities
- Lead the project planning process, including initiation, design, engineering, material procurement, construction, commissioning, and close-out for multiple concurrent projects.
- Manage project implementation, including project schedule, budget, and resources (external vendors and contractors).
- Lead client discussions and develop/grow client relationships.
- Serve as the primary project authority on major project-related issues.
- Track and report project metrics to stakeholders, ensuring compliance with regulatory, corporate, and department procedures throughout all project phases.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with WSP/POWER staff, management, and clients.
- Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams of technical professionals to execute project work, including budgets, task completion, cost tracking, deliverables, compliance documentation, and contractual obligations.
- Establish the level of technical review required for projects, select qualified staff, and ensure adherence to the QA/QC plan.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field within the Power & Energy Market.
- 10+ years of relevant post-education experience, preferably in a project management role within the Power Delivery/Utility Industry.
- Minimum of 3 years of applicable industry experience working with or providing services for IOUs, IPPs, Co-Ops, Munis, etc.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience leading engineering and/or construction teams on medium to large electrical utility-scale projects for high voltage and/or extra high voltage transmission line projects.
- Familiarity with financial analysis tools in a utility setting.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

- Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess and apply project management principles effectively.
- Advanced interpersonal and communication skills to interact persuasively and tactfully with leadership, subcontractors, and employees at all levels.
- Excellent self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and adaptability to changing priorities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently and provide guidance to mid-level to senior-level team members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
- Advanced proficiency with technical writing, office automation, relevant software, MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), and PM tools.
- Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, subcontractors, consultants, and company-wide staff.
- Strong ability to adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility with schedules and hours to meet project-specific needs.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific needs.
