About the role

The Project Manager at CR Meyer is responsible for contributing to the success of the company and its heavy industrial customers throughout the planning, budgeting, construction, and post-construction phases of projects. This includes projects involving dams, spillways, intake/outlet structures, cofferdams, dewatering systems, and related civil/structural improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures all objectives of the project are accomplished within safety guidelines, quality, schedule, budget, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
  • Works collaboratively with customers in estimating, planning, and executing projects involving dams, water control structures, facility updates, equipment installation, plant shutdowns, civil/structural improvements, and related heavy industrial construction.
  • Prepares bid proposals, follows established estimating processes, and presents them to customers. Follows up with customers on all outstanding proposals.
  • Establishes estimates, contracts, budgets, schedules, personnel needs, and overall goals for the construction phase for all awarded construction projects.
  • Led project planning for dam-related scopes, including site access, temporary works, cofferdams, bypass pumping, dewatering, concrete repair, earthwork, structural steel, mechanical systems, and coordination of work performed in or around water.
  • Coordinates with owners, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, vendors, and regulatory representatives to support permitting, constructability reviews, technical submittals, RFIs, change management, and field execution on dam and water infrastructure projects.
  • Maintains a high level of ethics when soliciting pricing from vendors and refrains from sharing confidential pricing or bid information.
  • Acts as the primary liaison between the customer and CR Meyer, fostering open communication and trust between all parties.
  • Manages proper staffing levels for project completion, working with the General Manager, Labor Relations Manager, and Human Resources Manager.
  • Selects, schedules, and manages subcontractors and vendors' services.
  • Learns and implements the CR Meyer Risk Control Plan for all projects and promotes safety every day.
  • Leads the effort to establish and maintain a safe job site, working with the customer, on-site staff, Safety Coordinator, and the whole project team.
  • Promotes safe execution of high-risk dam and heavy civil work by planning for water hazards, excavation and earthwork risks, confined spaces, crane and rigging activities, temporary access, environmental controls, and emergency response needs.
  • Ensures that the project has all assigned equipment, tools, supplies, and other resources needed to complete the job.
  • Monitors tool losses, ensures transfers are completed, and monitors "hold" accounts.
  • Prepares purchase orders for all project-related expenses, oversees and approves labor hours, expense sheets, invoicing, and is responsible for receivables management.
  • Reviews and approves all project subcontracts, purchases, timesheets, and expense reports.
  • Continually reviews project progression, assesses risk and deviations, provides periodic updates, and regularly communicates with the customer, project team, field staff, subcontractors, engineers, inspectors, and other interested parties to ensure projects stay within specifications, permits, schedule, and budget through completion.
  • Completes change orders as needed for out-of-scope work.
  • Uses the Viewpoint software program for setting up jobs, entering budgets, writing purchase orders, pending change orders (PCOS), approved changed orders (ACOs), and subcontracts.
  • Ensures that the proper QA/QC standards and procedures required for the project are implemented and within CR Meyer guidelines, including documentation, inspections, testing, and closeout requirements for dam, concrete, civil/structural, and mechanical scopes.
  • Works with the Design/Build team on "means and methods" engineering controls.
  • Oversees the preparation of the final project punch list for the customers' review and ensures it is properly completed.
  • Properly documents completed projects to use as a reference in the future.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of experience estimating and managing heavy industrial, heavy civil, or water infrastructure construction projects; direct experience with dam, spillway, intake/outlet, cofferdam, dewatering, concrete repair, earthwork, or related civil/structural scopes strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of dam construction/rehabilitation, FERC requirements, heavy civil construction, underwater repairs, diving operations, hydrology/hydraulics concepts, regulatory coordination, and environmental controls is preferred but not required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering preferred. A combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn and utilize scheduling and estimating software.
  • Experience with scheduling, estimating, project management, or construction documentation tools used on complex civil or industrial projects is preferred.
  • Ability to complete all CR Meyer training and perform job duties within safety guidelines.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and comply with CR Meyer's Drug & Alcohol Policy and Program.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurable driving history, and ability to operate a motor vehicle following all traffic laws and safe, courteous driving habits.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
