Project Manager – Marine/Dams

About the role

The Project Manager contributes to the overall success of CR Meyer and its heavy industrial customers throughout the planning, budgeting, construction, and post-construction project phases, with a strong emphasis on complex heavy civil and water infrastructure work. This includes projects involving dams, spillways, intake/outlet structures, cofferdams, dewatering systems, and related civil/structural improvements.

Uses experience and knowledge of construction principles, project controls, customer coordination, and safety leadership to ensure all objectives of the project are accomplished within safety guidelines, quality, schedule, budget, regulatory, and environmental requirements.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with heavy industrial, utility, municipal, government, and private-sector customers in estimating, planning, and executing projects involving dams, water control structures, facility updates, equipment installation, plant shutdowns, civil/structural improvements, and related heavy industrial construction.
• Prepare bid proposals with the General Manager or Vice President, following established estimating processes, and present them to customers; follow up on outstanding proposals.
• Establish estimates, contracts, budgets, schedules, personnel needs, and overall goals for awarded construction projects.
• Lead project planning for dam-related scopes, including site access, temporary works, cofferdams, bypass pumping, dewatering, concrete repair, earthwork, structural steel, mechanical systems, and coordination of work performed in or around water.
• Coordinate with owners, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, vendors, and regulatory representatives to support permitting, constructability reviews, technical submittals, RFIs, change management, and field execution on dam and water infrastructure projects.
• Maintain a high level of ethics when soliciting pricing from vendors and subcontractors; refrain from sharing confidential pricing or bid information.
• Act as the primary liaison between the customer and CR Meyer, fostering open communication and trust.
• Manage proper staffing levels for project completion in collaboration with the General Manager, Labor Relations Manager, and Human Resources Manager.
• Responsible for subcontractor and vendor selection, scheduling, and management of their services.
• Implement the CR Meyer Risk Control Plan for all projects and promote a proactive safety culture.
• Lead efforts to establish and maintain a safe job site, working with the customer, on-site staff, Safety Coordinator, and project team.
• Plan for and mitigate high-risk dam and heavy civil work hazards, including water hazards, excavation risks, confined spaces, crane and rigging activities, temporary access, environmental controls, and emergency response needs.
• Lead by personal example, advocating for CR Meyer’s Mission-Vision-Values and Code of Conduct.
• Ensure projects have all assigned equipment, tools, supplies, and resources needed for completion; control tool losses and monitor “hold” accounts.
• Prepare POs for project-related expenses, oversee and approve labor hours, expense sheets, invoicing, and manage receivables; review and approve subcontracts, purchases, timesheets, and expense reports.
• Review and complete AP unapproved invoices, prebills, and related financial documentation in a timely manner.
• Continually review project progression, assess risks and deviations, and provide periodic updates to stakeholders to ensure projects stay within specifications, permits, schedule, and budget.
• Complete change orders as needed for out-of-scope work.
• Use Viewpoint software for job setup, budget entry, purchase orders, pending change orders (PCOS), approved change orders (ACOs), and subcontracts.
• Ensure proper QA/QC standards and procedures are implemented, including documentation, inspections, testing, and closeout requirements for dam, concrete, civil/structural, and mechanical scopes.
• Work with the Design/Build team on “means and methods” engineering controls.
• Oversee the preparation of the final project punch list for customer review and ensure proper completion; document completed projects for future reference.
• Wear all assigned PPE and observe CR Meyer safety guidelines at all times; complete all related reports and paperwork in a timely manner.
• Represent the CR Meyer brand in a positive, professional manner at all times.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Five or more years of experience estimating and managing heavy industrial, heavy civil, or water infrastructure construction projects; direct experience with dam, spillway, intake/outlet, cofferdam, dewatering, concrete repair, earthwork, or related civil/structural scopes strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of dam construction/rehabilitation, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) requirements, heavy civil construction, underwater repairs, diving operations, hydrology/hydraulics concepts, regulatory coordination, and environmental controls is preferred but not required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering preferred; a combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn and utilize scheduling and estimating software.
• Experience with scheduling, estimating, project management, or construction documentation tools used on complex civil or industrial projects is preferred.
• Ability to complete all CR Meyer training and perform job duties within safety guidelines.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and comply with CR Meyer’s Drug & Alcohol Policy and Program.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, insurable driving history, and ability to operate a motor vehicle following all traffic laws and safe, courteous driving habits.
• Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
• Ability to travel to various project sites within the United States required.
