This is a permanent-exempt position excluded from the competitive Civil Service examination process, serving at the discretion of the Appointing Officer for up to 36 months.

About the Role

San Francisco Public Works Project Delivery Division is seeking a Project Manager IV for the Project Management Bureau. This role will manage an estimated budget of $300 million for multiple streetscape projects aimed at activating and enhancing corridors throughout San Francisco. Projects include streetscape improvements, pedestrian safety enhancements, and beautification efforts such as:

• Widening sidewalks and installing pedestrian bulb-outs
• Building raised crosswalks and reconstructing roadways
• Adding new pedestrian and street lighting
• Enhancing landscape features and improving traffic signals
• Upgrading sewer and utility systems
• Creating new bike lanes, loading zones, and bus islands
• Incorporating decorative and functional streetscape elements

These improvements support safe, accessible, and comfortable movement for pedestrians and drivers across the city.

Responsibilities

• Assemble design and construction management teams
• Execute solicitations for professional services and construction contracts
• Develop project plans and select project delivery methods
• Monitor project scope, budget, funding, costs, and schedules
• Oversee planning phases and completion of conceptual design
• Manage the design phase, including participation in design coordination meetings
• Facilitate regulatory approval processes and resolve project-related issues
• Review and approve change orders
• Coordinate work of multi-disciplinary technical staff across organizational boundaries
• Engage extensively with the public, private contractors, special interest groups, governmental agencies, and City departments
• Serve as the primary contact for all project stakeholders
• Supervise other Project Managers and technical staff

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include one of the following:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in architecture, engineering, or planning, plus four (4) years of responsible architectural, engineering, or construction management experience, and four (4) additional years of project coordination experience (including two (2) years in major projects); OR
• A Bachelor’s Degree in another field, plus six (6) years of responsible architectural, engineering, or construction management experience directly related to the project, and four (4) additional years of project coordination experience (including two (2) years in major projects); OR
• Eight (8) years of architectural, engineering, or construction management experience directly related to the project, and four (4) additional years of project coordination experience (including two (2) years in major projects); OR
• California registration as a professional engineer or architect, plus four (4) additional years of project coordination experience (including two (2) years in major projects).

Note: One (1) year of full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours. Overtime hours beyond 40 per week are not included in this calculation.
