About the role

Barton Malow's Industrial Services team is seeking a Project Manager to lead the execution of a thermal power generation project on a long-term traveling assignment based out of our Oak Park, MI office, with an expected project duration of approximately 18–24 months. This role requires a collaborative leader experienced in managing heavy industrial construction projects from preconstruction through project closeout in a fast-paced field environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all phases of project execution, including planning, procurement, construction, commissioning support, and project closeout.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, cash flow, forecasting, and overall financial performance.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
  • Lead project teams by providing direction, mentorship, and support to project engineers, superintendents, and field staff.
  • Oversee project document control, contract administration, submittals, RFIs, change management, and project reporting.
  • Review and negotiate subcontractor and vendor agreements, change orders, and cost proposals.
  • Collaborate with field leadership to develop construction execution plans, site logistics, work packaging strategies, and project schedules.
  • Monitor project performance and proactively identify, mitigate, and resolve project risks and issues.
  • Ensure compliance with Barton Malow's safety program while promoting a strong culture of safety across all project activities.
  • Oversee quality planning and execution to ensure work is completed in accordance with project specifications and quality management requirements.
  • Coordinate with clients, engineering teams, and regulatory agencies to facilitate timely approvals and successful project delivery.
  • Support business development efforts, client relationship management, and future project opportunities as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience managing industrial or commercial construction projects, with demonstrated experience leading project teams.
  • Experience managing project budgets, schedules, forecasting, contract administration, and change management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
  • OSHA 30-Hour certification preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for project assignments lasting approximately 18–24 months.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting thermal power generation or power plant construction projects.
  • Experience managing millwright, rigging, and/or boilermaker scopes of work.
  • Experience leading self-perform construction operations.
  • Experience with heavy industrial construction and/or major equipment installation.
  • Experience developing and managing work packaging strategies.
  • Experience implementing and managing quality control processes and quality management systems (QMS).
  • Experience managing EPC, industrial maintenance, or outage projects.
  • Familiarity with Lean construction principles and collaborative project delivery methods.
