Project Manager I (Industrial Construction)

About the Role

Project Managers are Dennis Group’s primary client contact through the entire project delivery process, from design concept through bidding, construction, and start-up. As a Project Manager, your responsibility is to ensure each project’s scope, cost, and schedule are successfully met. Our projects involve designing and building food and beverage process facilities (industrial projects). The design/architect teams, engineering teams (multiple), and construction teams are housed within Dennis Group, and the project manager actively interacts with each group to ensure project success.

Project Managers also play a vital role in client relationship management, supporting sales and marketing activities. This role requires excellent leadership, organization, and time management skills, as well as a technical background, professionalism, self-motivation, energy, and strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing projects from planning through commissioning, including developing key success criteria and ensuring they are achieved.
• Assist with the development of project scope, budget, schedule, and critical path elements.
• Develop RFIs and prepare purchase/work authorizations.
• Maintain client SharePoint sites and manage in-house and consulting design teamwork products.
• Establish design criteria and review design and construction phase documents.
• Manage permit, code, and regulatory approvals.
• Develop preliminary procurement plans, including preparation of bid packages, bid tabulation, and writing purchase orders and subcontracts.
• Assemble and evaluate potential project bidders.
• Develop small engineering services proposals and manage the bid process fairly and professionally.
• Maintain an “Outstanding Items Needs” list and project meeting notes.
• Develop and issue monthly reports and update the project forecasting tool monthly.
• Review and approve monthly supplier invoices and client billing.
• Develop and maintain submittal and RFI processes.
• Develop preliminary PM/Eng/CM/Start-up support cost estimates.
• Facilitate and manage food safety risk assessments.
• Organize construction trades and administer subcontracts.
• Manage project budget and expense approvals, as well as contract and change order administration.
• Oversee equipment installations and provide on-site supervision.
• Coordinate design team on-site support activities and manage project punch-list inspections.
• Assemble and maintain complete project records and close-out documents.
• Interface with clients, work in client facilities, and visit construction sites.
• Utilize multiple software programs (MS Office, CAD, Navisworks, MS Project, SharePoint, etc.).
• Research project management best practices and support talent growth within the organization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (strongly preferred), Construction Management, or Architecture.
• 3+ years of experience within a design-build or General Contractor company working with multiple in-house engineering disciplines, architects, and designers.
• 3+ years of experience with MEP industrial construction projects, preferably in food and beverage or pharmaceutical industries.
• 3+ years of experience with building construction, project scheduling, construction estimating, and construction safety.
• Basic understanding of AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and other design software.
• Familiarity with sanitary environments is a plus.
• Must meet overnight travel requirement of not less than 50% (70–120 nights out of town annually).

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Standing and walking on jobsites over rough terrain may be required.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Travel

Projects are located throughout the United States and Canada. This position requires regular collaboration with owners, A/E teams, subcontractors, and building officials at client facilities and construction sites. Overnight travel will be not less than 50% (70–120 nights out of town annually).
