About the Role

Supervise, coordinate, and manage multiple construction, repair, and maintenance projects while ensuring compliance with company standards, procedures, and federal, state, and local requirements. Lead the development and execution of a broad range of natural gas and hydrocarbon liquid facility projects, including high-pressure gas and liquid transmission pipeline, metering, compression, pumps, storage, gathering, treating, and processing.

Act as a project team leader to organize and direct efforts toward meeting team goals, including project planning, scheduling, prioritization of tasks, cost control, coordination with pipeline operations and field forces, and monitoring project progress.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as on-site representative for operational, commercial, expansion, and development projects.
  • Provide preliminary work scopes, estimates, and budgeting details for assigned projects.
  • Coordinate the bidding process to ensure competitive and effective costing.
  • Provide project management to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget.
  • Advise management of progress toward project objectives and develop strategies for necessary adjustments.
  • Promote ideas that provide safer, more efficient, and cost-effective operations.
  • Interface effectively with customer representatives, regulators, Tallgrass staff, and others as required.
  • Create bid packages and scopes for contractors and vendors.
  • Interact with contractors throughout the bid, selection, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Provide hands-on field management with full responsibility for capital and maintenance projects.
  • Interact with maintenance and operations during concept, design, construction, and completion of capital projects for smooth turnover.
  • Meet deadlines set by sales and operations.
  • Perform all job duties in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership and direction to project teams, which may include internal and external service providers such as project engineers, planning engineers, operation engineers, and environmental engineers.
  • Create and direct controls for assigned projects.
  • Provide or direct appropriate project documentation to ensure compliance with corporate, federal, state, and other governing bodies.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on project proposals, descriptions, and status to upper management, governmental agencies, and/or the public.
  • Provide accurate monthly project cash flow forecasts and accruals.
  • Manage projects to mitigate safety, reliability, environmental, and human impacts while meeting project goals (schedule, budget, safety, and quality).
  • Ensure ongoing improvement through evaluation of current processes.
  • Travel as required (5-10% across a broad geographic region).
  • Plan, schedule, and manage multiple capital and operational projects concurrently to meet customer needs and expectations.
  • Organize projects in the company’s financial control system, review and manage expenditures and commitments, and prepare monthly cost control reports.
  • Assist business development and operations by preparing project scopes, cost estimates, and execution plans for new and expansion projects.
  • Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Communicate clearly, both in person and by telephone, using strong verbal skills and listening carefully.
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and consistently high performance.
  • Work non-traditional hours as needed.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, company assets, employees, and the general public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical preferred).
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ direct work experience in engineering or project management of natural gas or hazardous liquid pipeline or facility projects, including high-pressure gas and liquid transmission, metering, compression, pump stations, storage, truck loading terminals, gathering, treating, and processing.
  • Full complement of project management skills, including project scoping, estimating, cost and schedule control, design and construction management, team building, resource planning, procurement, and permitting.
  • Ability to understand the needs of the business unit(s) for which development work is performed.
  • Basic understanding of midstream and downstream projects.
  • Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present ideas, proposals, and results to business leaders and internal/external customers.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work, manage large projects, and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • General understanding of how corporate policies, procedures, practices, and processes relate to the pipeline business segment and associated business units.
  • Understanding of basic economic analysis as it pertains to project justification.
  • Ability to identify and establish expectations in an employee/employer relationship.
  • Solid leadership, communication, motivation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage projects involving individuals with varying disciplines, backgrounds, and experience levels.
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulations and agencies such as DOT, OSHA, and various state counterparts.
  • Familiarity with DOT, NEC, ASME, API, ASTM, and other specifications, standards, and recommended practices typical in the natural gas or hazardous liquid transportation industry.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook).
  • Valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers (for travel).

  • Minimal safety hazards; general office working conditions.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting.
  • Regular use of hands to type, touch, handle, or feel.
  • Frequent standing and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Occasional walking, climbing, or balancing.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • Working in confined spaces.
  • Field activities may include walking to and amidst work/construction sites, climbing in and out of trenches, working around heavy equipment, and negotiating rough terrain or areas of loose rock.
  • Overtime may be required and is anticipated.

Working Conditions

  • The majority of the workday is spent in an office environment, though this may vary depending on location assignment.
  • For outdoor work, weather conditions vary and can be extreme, depending on location and seasonal changes.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must communicate effectively with fellow workers and demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures.
  • Overtime may be required, including extended work hours in emergencies.
  • Required to carry a cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of specific experience in engineering and designing pipelines and compressor stations for mainline natural gas and hazardous liquid transmission service.
  • Registered professional engineer.
  • Training in project management techniques, including project scoping, estimating, cost and schedule control systems, design and construction management, team building, resource planning, procurement, and permitting.
  • Knowledge of pipeline operations.

Pay

$200,000 - $220,000 per year.
