Project Manager -Engineering & Construction

About the Role

This position, within the Engineering and Construction Section of Houston Public Works, focuses on drainage infrastructure. The role involves preparing and reviewing technical documents, coordinating projects, providing technical support, and ensuring compliance with codes and regulations. It also includes conducting special projects, training staff, and improving work processes related to drainage systems.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and reviews plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical correspondence, reports, and project schedules.
• Coordinates the implementation of projects and contracts.
• Provides technical support to operation and maintenance staff.
• Interprets codes and regulations.
• Interfaces with various service lines and departments.
• Investigates and responds to inquiries from technical personnel, regulatory agencies, and the general public.
• Communicates with consultants and contractors.
• Conducts and coordinates special projects.
• Provides technical guidance and training to staff.
• Prepares administrative documents such as reports, letters, forms, and procedural guidelines.
• Reviews and monitors work activities performed by external consultants.
• Analyzes work processes and implements improvements to enhance drainage infrastructure, equipment, and systems.

Working Conditions

The role involves occasional exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness, and unpleasant air conditions. It may also include exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances. Physical requirements include stooping, bending, lifting items up to 30 pounds, and walking on rough surfaces. This is a Tier II Level position in Houston Public Works Emergency Management.

Requirements

• Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Project Management, or a closely related field. Considerable knowledge of design or construction is required.
• Experience Requirements: Four years of experience in construction, construction inspection, design, landscape design, geotechnical, environmental, or a closely related field. Directly related professional experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• License Requirements: None.

This is a safety impact position subject to random drug testing. The salary is determined based on the candidate’s qualifications and pay rates of other employees in the same classification (Pay Grade - 25).
