Project Manager Drilling

About the Role

As Project Manager – Drilling, you will ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner. You will maintain required safety, security, and operational training, assure procedural and regulatory compliance, and make safety and security an integral part of every task. This includes taking necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Assists with interviews, hires, and training of new staff.
• Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
• Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
• Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Responsibilities

• Develops, coordinates, and reviews preparedness documents, reports, and other submittals to confirm content meets project requirements within schedule and budget.
• Confirms that procedures and processes being implemented follow technical and regulatory requirements.
• Tracks project cost, schedule, and variance with assistance from the Project Management Office, Drilling Control Account Manager, and Drilling Subcontract Technical Representative.
• Interacts with and supports the client to provide expedient communication of project details.
• Coordinates with internal, subcontractor, and client personnel to discuss technical operations and issues.
• Manages drilling and well rehabilitation subcontractors to minimize costs and meet schedule.
• Communicates with and maintains positive relationships with the client.
• Adheres to Consent Order requirements for Drilling and Groundwater Program.
• Develops and reviews drilling and well rehabilitation scopes of work, request for proposals, subcontractor bids, and contracts in support of procurement.
• Responsible for developing, reviewing, revising, and confirming that procedures comply with environmental, safety, health, quality, and technical requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Ability to develop and lead large-sized projects, including defining scope, objectives, and methods.
• Ability to train and mentor junior staff.
• Recognized as an expert within a specialty and highly competent within the broad discipline, both internally and externally.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented project environment.
• Familiarity with the LANL site and work environment preferred, including other DOE environmental sites.
• Familiarity with EVMS and P6 systems preferred.
• PMP certification or training preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. A combination of education and/or relevant experience may substitute where knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the position’s duties have been demonstrated.
• At least 10 years’ experience related to drilling, pump, or environmental project management.
• Water well drilling and pump experience is preferred.
• Sufficient practical knowledge of environmental sciences to understand and utilize scientific data.
• A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with state regulations is required.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
• Must be able to attain and maintain a security clearance.

• The employee exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision.

Work Environment

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
