Project Manager - Athletics Administration
About the role
The Project Manager - Athletics Administration will play a critical role in supporting and advancing the Detroit Public Schools Community District's athletic programs and initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate district-wide athletic initiatives, projects, and special events from planning through execution.
- Lead the operational planning and implementation of league competitions, championships, tournaments, showcases, and student-athlete recognition programs.
- Collaborate with principals, athletic directors, coaches, and district departments to ensure successful execution of athletic programming.
- Develop project plans, timelines, budgets, and implementation strategies for athletic initiatives.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential challenges, and implement solutions to ensure successful outcomes.
- Cookordinate facility scheduling, transportation logistics, staffing assignments, officials, vendors, and event operations.
- Support compliance with district policies, league regulations, state athletic association requirements, and risk management protocols.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with school leaders, coaches, parents, community organizations, and external partners.
- Manage communication plans related to athletic events, programs, deadlines, and stakeholder engagement.
- Oversee project budgets and monitor expenditures to ensure responsible use of resources.
- Collect, analyze, and report participation, operational, and performance data to support decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
- Assist in the development and implementation of strategic plans that support the growth and sustainability of DPSCD athletic programs.
- Cooordinat professional development opportunities and resources for coaches and athletic personnel.
- Provide exceptional customer service and support to students, families, coaches, administrators, and community stakeholders.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for district leadership regarding athletic programs and initiatives.
- Support the Executive Director of Athletics in advancing district athletic priorities and organizational goals.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience managing large-scale projects, programs, or initiatives, preferably within K-12 education, athletics, recreation, nonprofit organizations, or youth development programs.
- Experience working in athletic administration, school athletics, event management, or related fields preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and organizational objectives.
- Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience developing operational systems, procedures, and customer-service-oriented processes.
- Ability to analyze data and prepare reports to evaluate program effectiveness and outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants must provide evidence of experience in high school and/or college sports, preferably in the area of applicable position.
- Must have at least five (5) years of previous athletic Administration in the area of applicable position.
- Must have at least two (2) years of experience coaching or working with youth.
- Must have knowledge of athletic procedures and the MHSAA.
- Demonstrated verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required.
- Must show evidence/certification of completing/attending the following and other professional development courses, workshops and clinics to expand knowledge in all aspects of coaching: MHSAA CAP 1-2 (mandatory) AED and Heart Saver CPR Certification (mandatory).
