About the role
This opportunity involves technical project supervision and guidance for managing the administrative, commercial, and technical components of assigned projects. The position requires overseeing cross-functional teams and ensuring adherence to project lifecycle phases.
Responsibilities
- Technical project supervision and guidance
- Managing the administrative, commercial, and technical components of assigned projects
- Overseeing cross-functional teams of technical professionals
- Developing the work breakdown structure (WBS) tasks and estimated costs
- Establishing the level of technical review required for the project
- Contributing to performing margin analyses, establishing margin goals and risk contingencies
- Collaborating with Project Accounting to monitor and track project metrics
- Overseeing budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, cost and change management and control
- Participating in project kick-off meetings with key stakeholders
- Communicating and escalating project site Health & Safety or significant client issues to senior PM staff and leadership
- Providing regular project reporting and updates to clients, technical area, and business unit managers
- Maintaining accounts receivable (AR) and unbilled revenue
- Working with the Procurement Department to closeout procurements and/or supplier agreements
- Conducting and documenting a lessons-learned meeting with key project staff
- Completing formal project closeout activities
- Remaining current in the latest Project Management techniques and practices (PMAP)
- Exercising responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm
- Obtaining project management certification required (e.g., PMP, CAP-M)
- 7 to 10 years of relevant post-education experience in a project management role within the industry
- A sound understanding of project delivery process within the A/E/C industry and well-defined background and experience in project management
- Competent analytical and organizational skills, with business acumen to bridge the business and project management
- Effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess and calculate project management principles
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others
- Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and adjusting to changing priorities
- Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members
- Competent with technical writing, office automation, relevant software, MS Office suite products (e.g., Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), technology, spreadsheets, and PM tools
- Effectiveness at coordinating resources and assertively directing consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and others to complete tasks competently and efficiently
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Engineering (preferred)
