PROJECT MANAGER
About the role
The Chicago Department of Aviation seeks a Project Manager to support the Commissioner’s Office. The role involves coordinating and managing project tasks and deliverables, overseeing administrative staff, creating plans, setting targets for milestones, and adhering to deadlines. The Project Manager also serves as a point of contact for the Commissioner’s office, manages quality control, and assists in the planning and implementation of projects.
Responsibilities
- Helps to coordinate and manage project tasks and deliverables
- Manages the administrative staff in the Commissioner's office
- Responsible for creating plans, including setting targets for milestones, and adhering to deadlines
- Serves as a point of contact for the Commissioner’s office when multiple team members or sections are assigned to the same project to ensure team actions remain in synergy
- Performs quality control on projects throughout development to maintain the standards expected
- Manages deadlines and pushes the team to ensure timeliness
- Affirms the planning and implementation of projects
- Manages professional staff and directs the functions and operations of an organizational section or unit
- Establishes and implements policies and procedures relating to section’s objectives
- Consults with staff and consultants to determine scope of services, budgets, establishes timelines, and implements processes to track and monitor the progress of projects and the accomplishment of key objectives
- Functions as a specialized advisor to senior managers or functions as a technical specialist or expert level professional in a given profession, specific technical area or operational area
- Collaborates with staff and consultants to determine scope of services, budgets, establishes timelines, and implements processes to track and monitor the progress of projects and the accomplishment of key objectives
- Coordinates and administers department initiatives, departmental programs, and special projects of a complex and technical nature
- Assists in the implementation of new technologies and other necessary program initiatives
- Conducts administrative duties for the Commissioner and First Deputy Commissioner
- Tracks and reports project progress
Requirements
- Must be able to pivot, multi-task, and must be able to keep matters confidential
Qualifications
- Nine (9) years of work experience in project management or program coordination, OR
- Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate’s degree PLUS seven (7) years of project management or program coordination work experience, OR
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's PLUS five (5) years of project management or program coordination work experience, OR
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree or higher PLUS four (4) years of project management or program coordination work experience

Pay
$89,112/year
Schedule
Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (May be required to work late nights and weekends)
Selection Requirements
- The candidate selected for hire must pass an airport background check and a Security Threat Assessment (STA)
- This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.
