About the role

This position leads commercial construction projects from initial planning through closeout, with a strong emphasis on estimating, scheduling, budgeting, and coordination. The Project Manager oversees all aspects of project execution, including documentation, subcontractor and vendor relationships, and collaboration with internal teams and field leadership. Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial construction projects from pre-construction through project closeout, ensuring they meet scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain detailed project schedules, timelines, milestones, and work plans to support successful project execution.
  • Direct pre-construction planning efforts, including coordination of permits, logistics, subcontractor onboarding, and project start-up activities.
  • Manage and organize all project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, change orders, and progress reports.
  • Ensure accurate and timely distribution of project information and documentation to all project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and lead communication with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials, labor, and services.
  • Manage procurement schedules, track delivery timelines, and perform follow-up activities to keep projects on schedule.
  • Monitor construction activities to ensure work complies with project specifications, applicable codes, safety requirements, and company standards.
  • Coordinate required inspections, address field and project issues, and drive corrective actions to maintain quality, safety, and schedule expectations.
  • Manage project budgets by tracking costs, reviewing invoices, monitoring expenses, and supporting accurate and timely cost reporting.
  • Review subcontractor billings, manage change order activity, and identify cost impacts that may affect project performance.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, field leadership, and project stakeholders to maintain alignment on goals, expectations, and project progress.
  • Provide clear, consistent communication to all parties and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment.
  • Support estimating activities and project planning by contributing construction management and commercial project experience.
  • Adapt to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and maintain strong attention to detail throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience managing commercial construction projects as a project manager.
  • Experience managing mid-size projects in the $5–$15 million range.
  • Commercial construction experience, with exposure to hospital or education projects.
  • Strong project management and construction management skills, including planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Experience with project estimation in a commercial construction environment.
  • Proficiency with project management and scheduling tools and a general understanding and proficiency in Microsoft products.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and accept and apply feedback from team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills in managing documentation, schedules, and budgets.
  • Proactive and self-motivated approach with a desire to learn and grow in the construction industry.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Residential project management experience is preferred and considered a plus.
  • Experience with hospital or education construction projects is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
  • Experience working for or with general contractors on commercial projects.
  • Commitment to high standards of quality, safety, integrity, and teamwork.

Work Environment

This is an in-person role based primarily in an office environment with periodic visits to active construction job sites. A typical workweek is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., though actual working hours and days may vary based on project deadlines, and weekend or evening work may be required at times. The position involves collaboration with internal office staff, field leadership, subcontractors, and vendors, as well as regular coordination with project stakeholders. Job sites may include commercial facilities such as hospitals, educational buildings, and other mid-size projects. Pay

The pay range for this position is $80,000.00 – $90,000.00/year. Individual compensation offered within this range will depend on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

Schedule

This is a fully onsite position in Sioux Falls, SD, with a typical Monday–Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., subject to variation based on project deadlines and occasional weekend or evening requirements.
