Project Manager - Aerospace & Industrial (Atlanta)
Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Project Manager to lead and motivate teams in the day-to-day management of project safety, quality, schedule, cost control, contracts, risk, suppliers, proposals, estimates, documentation turnover, client relations, and field staff. This role covers Design-Only, Engineer Procure Construct (EPC), Construction Management, Construction, and Program Management projects.
About the role
The Project Manager leads projects from inception to completion, acting as EPC Project Manager or Program Manager, and provides guidance to others in these roles. Responsibilities include overall project execution, ensuring successful completion on time and within budget, and leading all aspects of multi-discipline engineering projects from concept to completion.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and guidance for project safety, quality, engineering, procurement, construction, environmental compliance, project controls, and public/community relations.
- Establish project teams, coordinate activities of multiple disciplines, and ensure efficient, cost-effective staff utilization.
- Manage all aspects of project communication.
- Lead the Project Management team in administering RFP package development, bid and selection processes, and scope of work documents.
- Develop and monitor project schedules, manage scope, and control project costs.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding coordination, strategic planning, master scope management, budget finances, subcontracting, project staffing, environmental compliance, facility support, and schedule attainment.
- Manage the review, negotiation, approval, and execution of prime contracts, subcontracts, and change orders.
- Lead internal and external project risk reviews and consult with the Risk Department as required.
- Manage and approve internal and external reports, providing detailed, accurate project cost forecasts and accruals to clients and leadership.
- Oversee project controls efforts, including cost reporting, scheduling, work breakdown structure establishment, project set-up and closeout within the accounting system, and field progress tracking.
- Monitor progress on projects, address areas of concern, and redirect efforts to enhance schedule achievement, productivity, budgets, quality, and profitability.
- Manage contract closeout activities.
- Generate new business revenue by developing new client relationships or leveraging existing ones.
- Adhere to safety programs, trainings, and policies, and promote safety and health performance among team members and subcontractors.
- Participate in industry-associated conferences and committees.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff.
- Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes and compliance with company and site safety policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field from an accredited program.
- 7 years of applicable experience.
- Prior experience on construction project sites or executing program management in industries such as aviation, commercial, energy, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, process, transmission & distribution, or water is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding work environment and work overtime on short notice.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong computer skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with owners, contractors, engineers, and designers in a multi-disciplined project team environment.
- Strong experience with document control, scheduling, cost control, and project management software.
Schedule
Full-time, with up to 50% travel required.
