About the role
Provides guidance and direction to a project team of individuals responsible for the review of highly complex insurance product, underwriting and related practices that measure product performance, underwriting practices, quality controls and monitor the activities of underwriting vendors to ensure adherence to corporate standards for a particular line of business and ability to achieve optimal results from a profitability standpoint. Make recommendations to increase profitability. Ensures the timely and accurate completion of assigned individual and team tasks. Develops scope and identify next steps for assigned projects. Works with Management to develop reporting and analytics. Works with the team to identify opportunities to streamline workflow and processes utilizing GCP, Excel and their knowledge of how data flows. Collaborates with field management and the team to build and enhance dashboards. Must understand the data structure and data availability in order to advise on capabilities. Summarizes findings at an agent level and presents findings to management. Analyzes cost/benefit across Product features & Underwriting Practices to ensure or increase optimization of profitability. Participates in meetings with agents & managers to share results. Works in conjunction with Internal Audit on confidential and/or special projects and employee investigations. Conducts analyses to identify underlying trends and improvement opportunities and provides results and recommendations to management. Develops policies and procedures relative to the audit process as indicated. Reviews Underwriting reporting budget and analyzes cost-benefit. Builds trials to evaluate opportunities for new vendor solutions to assess cost/benefit and potential to increase optimization across Product & Underwriting. May collaborate directly with vendors. Performs special projects as requested and may provide guidance & direction for others working on the project.
Responsibilities
- Guides project teams in reviewing insurance product, underwriting, and related practices.
- Develops and implements strategies to improve profitability and efficiency.
- Ensures timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks and projects.
- Works with management to develop and refine reporting and analytical tools.
- Collaborates with field management and the team to enhance dashboard functionality.
- Identifies and advises on opportunities to streamline workflows and processes using GCP, Excel, and data analysis.
- Conducts analyses to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures related to audit processes.
- Reviews and analyzes Underwriting reporting budgets and identifies cost-saving measures.
- Collaborates with vendors to evaluate new solutions and assess their potential impact on profitability.
- Performs special projects as requested and provides guidance to other team members.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Insurance, technology, or a related field.
- Experience conducting comprehensive internal quality audits and documenting findings.
- Ability to research company procedures and guidelines as well as industry best practices.
- Knowledge of insurance policy provisions and coverage terminology, insurance laws and regulations, underwriting quality standards, rating and underwriting accuracy, quality audit techniques, and internal control concepts.
- Advanced auditing tools and techniques, descriptive statistics, audit sampling theories, investigation techniques, negotiation techniques, advanced root cause analysis techniques, quality concepts, and familiarity with Six Sigma, Total Quality, continuous improvement concepts, Quality Function Deployment, LEAN, etc.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
- Experience in project management.
- Ability to lead a project team and ensure accuracy of information.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including report preparation and presentation of major findings.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others in all levels of the organization, including conducting audit opening and closing meetings and making special presentations when requested.
- Experience in building consensus between State Product Management, Actuarial Pricing, Central Services, Field Management & Underwriting.
- Ability to assess fraud potential and make appropriate referrals for investigation.
