Project Inspector (Full-Time)
About the role
MBP is seeking a Project Inspector to support meaningful projects in the Washington/Baltimore DC metropolitan area. Ideal candidates have 7+ years of combined education and/or experience in construction quality management, particularly in general construction and the installation of Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, and related systems.
Responsibilities
- Represent the client on-site, overseeing quality assurance, documentation, cost control, and time management services.
- Perform inspections, prepare reports, track deficient work, and communicate with clients, designers, contractors, and MBP personnel.
- Support analytical assignments such as constructability review, cost estimating, change order review, and schedule review.
- Exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive and complex issues and situations.
- Identify potential problems and derive recommended solutions from past experiences.
- Exercise independent judgment and adapt and implement changes to standard construction practices and procedures to meet field conditions.
- Communicate quality issues effectively and responsibly (verbally and in writing) with internal and external customers.
- Exercise mathematical formulas and engineering principles to verify compliance of work being installed.
- Exercise computer skills and proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications, Email, Internet navigation, web-based tools, and other specialized equipment.
- Exercise reading and interpreting plans and contract specifications.
- Exercise communication skills to identify potential problems and derive recommended solutions from past experiences.
Requirements
- Experience: 7 or more years of combined education and/or experience in construction quality management related to general construction and the installation of Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, and related systems.
- Education/Knowledge: High school or GED, plus 7 years of related experience and/or education; Associate's degree, plus 5 years of related experience and/or education or higher strongly preferred; Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field, plus 2 years of related experience and/or education.
- Skills and Abilities: Specialized expertise with quality assurance and quality control techniques; Exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive and complex issues and situations; Identify potential problems and derive recommended solutions from past experiences; Exercise computer skills and be proficient in using Microsoft Office applications, Email, Internet navigation, web-based tools, and other specialized equipment; Exercise reading and interpreting plans and contract specifications; Communicate quality issues effectively and responsibly (verbally and in writing) with internal and external customers; Exercise mathematical formulas and engineering principles to verify compliance of work being installed; Exercise communication skills to identify potential problems and derive recommended solutions from past experiences.
Qualifications
- Considerable construction-related training (i.e., coursework in construction, mechanical engineering, project management, or materials testing/inspection).
- Knowledge of codes, materials, methods, and tools utilized in construction, repair, or renovation work.
- Knowledge of a full range of construction inspection tasks, ranging from routine to significant complexity.
