Project Geologist
About the role
Join Haley & Aldrich as a Project Geologist and tackle clients’ most meaningful challenges in the built and natural environments. You’ll work with passionate colleagues in a dynamic environment, supporting site assessment, characterization, and remediation projects for clients in the Industrial/Manufacturing, Energy, and Real Estate markets. This full-time position is located in our Greenville, SC or Charlotte, NC office and offers opportunities for continued professional growth along either a technical or project management career path.
Fieldwork will account for at least 50% of the position and may include overseeing subsurface explorations, monitoring well installation, environmental sampling, and other site investigation activities. Travel to project sites is expected.
Responsibilities
- Split time and responsibilities between field assignments and office assignments.
- Lead portions of technical project work from project scoping through final deliverables under the direction of senior staff.
- Apply academic and industry knowledge, as well as learnings from prior work experience to execute project work.
- Provide training, guidance, and informal mentoring to junior staff on their projects and within your technical discipline.
- Participate in communications with clients, agencies, and internal teams under the direction of senior staff.
- Oversee geologic site characterization including subsurface explorations, monitoring well siting and construction, soil vapor probe installation, field sampling, and waste management.
- Support and lead project teams with the interpretation, evaluation, and summarization of geologic data to make project decisions.
- Independently complete basic geologic data reduction, summarization, and synthesis, providing project teams with concise summaries that include evaluation and proposed next steps.
- Perform all work in accordance with company and client Health & Safety protocols.
- Demonstrate the company’s foundational safety behaviors.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related field.
- 4+ years of related experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in writing technical reports to meet project requirements.
- Able to work independently on individual tasks supporting technical work and manage tasks across multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
- Desire to learn and grow in your profession, demonstrating a positive attitude, strong work ethic, resourcefulness, flexibility, and ownership.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software.
- Able to meet the physical requirements of the position: lift 50 lbs., traverse unstable/sloping sites and landscapes, work outside in a range of weather conditions, and have the stamina for moderate physical activity for the majority of field working hours.
- Able to travel to work locations that may require overnight stays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Geology or related field.
- Professional certification or planning to obtain professional certification, as applicable to the discipline.
- Experience with developing conceptual site models.
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training and refresher updates.
Pay
The salary range for this position in Greenville, SC and Charlotte, NC is $70,000 - $85,000 annually. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions. Haley & Aldrich reviews salary ranges each quarter to assess competitiveness with the market.
