About the role
Dick Anderson Construction is seeking a motivated, organized, and detail-oriented Project Estimator to join our team in Jackson, WY. The Project Estimator prepares detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects, reviews plans and specifications, performs quantity takeoffs, coordinates subcontractor pricing, and works closely with Project Managers throughout the bidding process. Occasional travel to project sites is required.
Responsibilities
- Maintains current and future project bid lists, including an estimating log of current bidding projects and future/potential projects.
- Assists in identifying future/potential projects through WEB pages, newspapers, and other publications.
- Obtains plans from owner/engineering firms.
- Collects information for the estimate by reviewing the site with the Project Manager to note potential risks.
- Assists in calculating job quantities and studies plans and specifications, including estimating assumptions, production rates, and methods of construction.
- Assists in requesting subcontractor quotes and obtains bidders list.
- Incorporates safety costs into bids, such as trench boxes, confined space detection, safety meetings, and other project safety needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 5 years of estimating experience in heavy civil or commercial construction.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Experience performing quantity takeoffs and developing accurate cost estimates.
- Knowledge of construction means, methods, materials, and production rates.
- Experience soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier bids.
- Proficiency with estimating software, Microsoft Office, and other construction-related applications.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to project sites as needed.
