Job Description
Key Accountabilities
- Project Analysis: Analyze nuclear project drawings, specifications and design/technical documentation to understand the project's scope and requirements while adhering to the industry's regulatory requirements.
- Accurate Cost Forecasting: Utilize specialist cost estimation software and techniques to forecast material, consumables, labor, equipment, fees and overhead costs associated with the project.
- Quality Documentation: Document details, bases, and key assumptions associated with the cost estimate.
- Fleet Estimating: Provide estimates for nuclear projects across the fleet – supporting both Pressurized and Boiling Water Reactor facilities (PWR/BWR).
- Cost Estimate Re-evaluating: Re-evaluate cost estimates during the Long Range Planning (LRP) process for future years out.
- Supplier and Vendor Interaction: Research and obtain quotes from suppliers, subcontractors and vendors to inform cost assessments. Provides governance and oversight of cost estimates for accuracy.
- Collaboration for Refinement: Work closely with engineers, project managers, safety staff and regulatory compliance to refine project estimates and ensure alignment with industry standards and legal requirements.
- Stakeholder Communication: Present detailed cost estimates to the project team, site stakeholders/management.
Education, Experience & Skill Requirements
- Skills and Knowledge:
- Technical Expertise: Analytical and mathematical skills to accurately assess complex nuclear project requirements and calculate costs.
- Attention to Detail: Critical thinking, accuracy and precision in reviewing nuclear project documentation and performing cost calculations, considering safety and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborative: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with site stakeholders and present cost estimates clearly and persuasively.
- Nuclear Fundamentals: Familiarity with engineering principles, materials, equipment and construction techniques, including those specific to nuclear projects.
- Flexibility and Resilience: Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines while upholding rigorous safety, quality and regulatory standards inherent in the nuclear industry.
- Education:
- BS, BA or technical degree in Engineering, Business, Construction management (recommended) or equivalent experience.
- Professional Certifications:
- Recommended: Certified Cost Estimator/ Analyst (CCEA) or Certified Cost Professional (CCP) and member of American Society of professional estimators with a specialization in nuclear projects.
- Additional Certifications:
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- On-the-Job Experience:
- 10+ years of project engineering, and/or project management.
- 3-5 years performing project estimation.
