The Role We Want You For

The Project Estimator leads and supports the bidding of construction projects by preparing conceptual and hard dollar estimates and developing competitive proposals. This role is responsible for soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and vendor bids, as well as reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness.

• Performing quantity take-offs, constructability reviews, and value engineering analyses, while also assessing project risks, site conditions, and cost forecasts.
• Collaborating with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients to ensure alignment of scope and pricing.
• Supporting project handoff, maintaining cost data, and contributing to continuous improvement of estimating processes and tools.

The Specifics of the Role

• Work in conjunction with the bid team to prepare accurate bid proposals.
• Aid field operations with change order pricing.
• Review of the construction documents for value engineering and pricing.
• Obtain labor burden and applicable insurance rates.
• Maintain master subcontractor/vendor lists by trade.
• Solicit additional capable subcontractors.
• Provide technical assistance with project managers in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. as required.
• Assure clean transition of estimate, bidding information, drawings, specifications, etc to project management.
• Maintains and develops historical data for unit prices.
• Developing scopes of work for each trade to bid projects.
• Calling subcontractors to review scopes and verify if bidding.
• Develop General Conditions for review with Senior Management and Project Management.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Construction or similar discipline.
• A minimum of Two (2) years of estimating experience in the commercial construction industry.
• Knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions and trade practices.
• Conceptual ability to work with minimum information.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Technical-demonstrates the ability to perform mathematical calculations and possesses proficient data entry skills.
• Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office and Excel are critical, but, estimating database software, and Onscreen takeoff experience would be a plus.
• Full understanding of general contracting bidding requirements.
• Experience in attending Pre-Construction Meetings.
• Excellent decision making/problem solving skills.
• Supervisory experience is a plus as well as solid communication skills and the ability to work well with all levels of management and company personnel.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000 +/- annually, based on qualifications, skills, training, experience, and location.
Discretionary Annual Bonus: Subject to company performance and individual contribution.
