Project Estimator
About the Role
Hunter Crown is recruiting a Septic Project Estimator and Bidding Specialist for an established infrastructure services organization. This role involves identifying good projects, estimating work, developing competitive bids, and helping the team decide which opportunities to pursue. You will have a voice in pricing, project selection, profitability, and the handover of awarded work to the operations team.
This position offers a balance between focused estimating work and field visits, allowing you to understand real-world conditions that impact project pricing. The work is primarily regional, enabling you to stay connected to projects from estimation through execution without extensive national travel.
You will gain exposure to the full commercial side of the project cycle, including identifying opportunities, evaluating risk, developing pricing, winning work, supporting execution, and reviewing financial performance. This experience can lead to greater responsibility in estimating, preconstruction, commercial strategy, or project development.
Responsibilities
- Own the estimating process from initial project review through bid submission, including reviewing civil plans, site drawings, soil information, specifications, and other project documents.
- Develop material quantities and estimate labor, equipment, transportation, and other project costs while ensuring competitiveness and profitability.
- Conduct site visits to evaluate real-world conditions, access, terrain, existing infrastructure, and logistics that may impact project pricing.
- Identify and pursue worthwhile projects, developing relationships with contractors, developers, engineers, and other professionals in the regional construction market.
- Collaborate with project management and field operations to ensure the team understands scope, pricing assumptions, and expected financial performance for awarded projects.
- Compare estimated costs with actual results post-completion to refine future estimates.
Requirements
- At least three years of estimating experience in septic systems, excavation, earthwork, underground utilities, civil construction, or a closely related area.
- Comfortable reading engineered civil plans, site drawings, topographic information, soil documentation, and project specifications.
- Solid understanding of construction costs, including labor, equipment, materials, transportation, and project margins.
- Experience with digital plan review, construction estimating tools, and spreadsheets.
- Existing relationships within the construction, development, or civil engineering community are a plus but not required.
- Relevant industry certifications are a plus.
- Strong construction knowledge, attention to detail, and a desire to impact project success.
Pay
The anticipated base salary range is $70,000 to $110,000, depending on experience and qualifications, with an additional $20,000 to $30,000 in incentive compensation. Expected total cash compensation ranges from $90,000 to $140,000.
