Project Engineer - Water/Wastewater Utility
About the role
The Project Engineer II position at Aqua, an Essential Utilities company, is responsible for managing the Engineering & Construction Team and the State Capital Budget. Key responsibilities include overseeing project planning and design, coordinating construction projects, managing financials, and collaborating with various departments.
Essential Duties
- Manage the design of water and wastewater capital projects, including tanks, boosters, lift stations, WTP projects, WWTP projects, regulating vaults, etc.
- Evaluate and mitigate system-wide challenges using hydraulic modeling.
- Prepare and/or supervise the permit applications for selected projects and ensure all required permits are obtained with necessary approvals.
- Coordinate and manage construction projects, including bidding, scheduling, and cost estimating.
- Enforce contract requirements and perform construction administration on assigned projects.
- Negotiate and prepare property easements for all assigned projects.
- Manage project financials, including work orders, purchase orders, and invoicing.
- Collaborate with various departments, such as operations, engineering, accounting, and customer service.
- Assist with due diligence for potential new acquisitions.
- Review water main extension plans to ensure compliance with Aqua NJ design standards.
- Perform other tasks or projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required.
- Selected candidate must be a Registered, Professional Engineer in the State of New Jersey or must be able to obtain a PE license within 12 months from hire date.
- 4+ years of relevant experience is required, with experience working within water, wastewater, and buried utilities.
- Valid NJ Drivers License required.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills; communicates clearly, concisely, and professionally with internal customers.

- Able to work well under pressure and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- A team player capable of fostering multi-tasking in a collaborative environment.
Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $112,288.42 - $129,131.68.
