Job Title: Project EngineerJob Description This role leads multidisciplinary engineering teams in the development of advanced technology products and systems from concept through design, integration, testing, verification, and transition to production. The Project Engineer plans, coordinates, and executes complex engineering development efforts while meeting cost, schedule, and performance objectives. The position serves as a key technical point of contact throughout the product development lifecycle, partnering closely with technical leadership, program management, and functional engineering teams to ensure successful program execution. Responsibilities Lead engineering development efforts and drive execution of engineering activities in coordination with technical and program leadership.Develop and manage engineering plans, schedules, resource allocations, and technical execution strategies to meet program objectives.Take accountability for engineering performance against cost, schedule, technical, and quality objectives across assigned programs.Coordinate staffing requirements with functional engineering organizations to ensure projects are appropriately resourced.Lead and manage multidisciplinary engineering teams supporting product design, development, integration, testing, and continuous improvement.Support and guide product design activities, ensuring alignment with system requirements, performance goals, and compliance needs.Oversee integration and test activities, ensuring verification and validation efforts meet program requirements and quality standards.Represent engineering activities during program reviews and status meetings with leadership, stakeholders, and external partners.Provide regular progress updates on technical performance, risks, issues, and execution status to program and technical leadership.Organize engineering activities in alignment with integrated program schedules and overall project plans.Support the development and maintenance of detailed engineering schedules and resource forecasts.Prioritize engineering tasks and activities to ensure achievement of key milestones and deliverables.Track engineering budgets, schedules, technical status, risks, and action items, and drive closure of open issues.Coordinate engineering tasks across disciplines to ensure timely completion of actions and delivery of work products.Lead execution of systems engineering processes including requirements development, system architecture, design, integration, testing, verification, and validation.Manage technical planning, execution, and reporting throughout the system development lifecycle.Ensure engineering documentation, testing, maintenance activities, and design updates follow established systems engineering practices and standards.Lead engineering participation in major design reviews and program milestone reviews.Develop long-range plans for product development, deployment, compliance, reporting, and safety requirements.Support the development of Interface Control Documents (ICDs), system and software requirements, performance specifications, technical presentations, and test plans and procedures.Guide integration, verification, validation, and documentation activities to ensure compliance with program and customer requirements.Serve as a primary technical interface with customers, stakeholders, suppliers, and project teams.Present technical work products and status during milestone reviews, technical briefings, and customer meetings.Maintain comprehensive project records, engineering data, and technical documentation.Support proposal development, technical white papers, and customer engagement activities.Collaborate with functional engineering leads to develop engineering cost estimates and resource projections.Support continuous improvement initiatives across engineering processes, tools, and execution practices.Perform other engineering and project-related duties as assigned. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.Typically 15+ years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, 13+ years of experience with a Master's degree, or 10+ years of experience with a PhD; an equivalent combination of education and relevant engineering experience may be considered.Demonstrated success leading complex engineering programs and multidisciplinary technical teams.Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, methodologies, and best practices.Hands-on experience with requirements flow-down, system architecture development, integration, verification, and validation.Expertise in at least one engineering discipline such as power electronics, energy storage systems, electric drive systems, optical or laser systems, mechanical systems and structures, embedded systems, or aerospace, defense, and advanced technology platforms.Strong project leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.Proven ability to execute within aggressive schedules while maintaining quality and compliance.Experience developing engineering resource plans, schedules, and budgets.Demonstrated capability to coordinate and lead cross-functional technical teams.Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in complex technical environments.Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.Experience with systems engineering practices and tools, including tracking of engineering performance, risks, and action items.Familiarity with earned value management (EVM) concepts as applied to engineering programs. Additional Skills & Qualifications Master's degree or PhD in Engineering or a related technical discipline.Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems such as Windchill or similar tools.Experience with requirements management and systems engineering tools.Background supporting highly regulated industries such as aerospace, defense, energy, transportation, or advanced manufacturing.Familiarity with technical contract requirements, statements of work, and compliance-driven development programs.Experience in prototype development, testing, and product qualification environments.Experience supporting proposal development, including technical white papers and cost estimates.Experience leading or contributing to continuous improvement initiatives in engineering processes and tools.Ability to build strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders. Work Environment The Project Engineer operates in a dynamic, project-driven engineering environment focused on advanced technology products and systems. Work involves close collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams, program management, and technical leadership across the full product lifecycle, from early concept development through integration, testing, verification, validation, and production transition. The role requires frequent participation in formal design reviews, technical briefings, and program status meetings, as well as regular interaction with customers and suppliers. Typical tools include standard office productivity applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project, along with Product Lifecycle Management and requirements management systems where applicable. The position emphasizes structured systems engineering practices, disciplined documentation, and adherence to established program schedules and quality standards.
