About the Role
Performs varied engineering tasks requiring application of established techniques and procedures. Assignments involve responsibilities for planning and executing complete projects, or a portion of a larger project under the direction of more experienced staff. Provides technical support related to planning, designing, analyzing, constructing, and maintaining structures, electrical systems, and/or components. Provides engineering advice to design and drafting staff. Tasks may focus on electrical or mechanical engineering depending on department and project needs. General project engineering duties include monitoring material purchases, labor expenditures, and comparing them to planned project metrics.
Responsibilities
- Strong PLC (Emerson Machine Edition) and Electrical Controls experience, with demonstrated abilities to design and lead custom electro-mechanical projects.
- Organize project activities to ensure schedules are met and budgets respected.
- Knowledge of advanced automation controls, with the ability to adapt new technologies to meet system demands.
- Knowledge of various communication control protocols, such as MODBUS, PROFINET, TCPIP.
- Ability to pass security checks to gain access to DOE Sites as needed for installations and issue resolutions.
- Perform routine and non-routine engineering assignments in areas of design, development, analysis, evaluation, testing, preparation of specifications, execution of field tasks, and resolution of field problems.
- Lead small projects, ensuring designs, costs, and delivery meet project requirements.
- Solve a range of straightforward problems, analyze solutions, and assess each using standard procedures.
- Ensure compliance with government, organization, and customer engineering standards.
- Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard technical techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.
- Work on special projects as directed.
- Create and/or modify User’s Manuals and general equipment manuals (e.g., Installation, Testing).
- Basic knowledge of Genie 2000 and NDA2000 software packages and their relation to Systems products.
- General knowledge of Gamma and Neutron System measurement techniques.
Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques, and criteria.
- Good communication skills, including the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data.
- Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships.
- Good problem identification and problem-resolution skills.
- Ability to assess quoted project costs and design accordingly.
- Technical degree in a related engineering field.
- Knowledge of manufacturing equipment and techniques used in fabrication.
- Experience in Automation Controls including PLCs, Stepper Motors, Encoders, and Weigh Scales.
