Your work environment
You will be part of the Site Civil team based in Chicago, Detroit, St Louis, Columbus, or Dallas with consideration for hybrid work arrangements. This role focuses on Site Civil/Land Development projects supporting the Buildings, Telecommunications, and Mission Critical practices nationally, with opportunities to work on projects across the United States.
What a day at EXP has in store for you
- Prepares engineering analysis, design, and calculations for site access, grading, drainage, utility networks, and erosion control independently or with plan production support.
- Coordinates with clients, government agencies, and other project design leaders across multiple time zones.
- Generates detailed reports to demonstrate compliance with local design guidelines.
- Employs modeling software for drainage and water/sewer system design (e.g., HEC-HMS, ICPR, SWMM, or similar).
- Actively participates in construction document preparation and independently makes design decisions.
- Maintains involvement with projects during construction to respond to RFIs or make design revisions for unforeseen conditions.
- Prepares scope and fee estimates on portions of projects or change orders, or assists with project procurement as needed.
What Your Experience Looks Like
- BS Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- 4+ years of experience in a Civil Engineering role (site civil/land development experience preferred).
- PE certification required (or ability to obtain within 12 months of start date).
- Proficient in CAD via AutoCAD Civil3D.
- Proficient in stormwater modeling software such as HEC-HMS, ICPR, SWMM, or similar.
- Ability to work on several projects concurrently.
- Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively within multi-discipline, remote project teams.
- Ability to plan one’s own time and manage the time of others as needed.
- Ability to problem solve, complete assigned tasks efficiently, and approach new projects and agencies with sound engineering judgment.
- Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
- Forward-thinking to identify possible technical or schedule constraints at the onset of projects.
- Ability to travel for 1–2 day site inspection/meeting trips (one trip per month or less on average).
Pay
The salary range for this role is $85,000 to $110,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location. Compensation may vary by location due to differences in the cost of labor.
