About the Role
As a Project Engineer at Metalcraft of Mayville, you will have complete ownership of product design and validation from concept to production. This role focuses on designing attachments for compact construction equipment, such as buckets, grapples, trenchers, stump grinders, and augers. You will ensure projects are completed at a competitive price, on schedule, and meet or exceed specified requirements. This position emphasizes product design, validation, and team collaboration, not manufacturing or process development.
Responsibilities
- Design with consideration of project team direction, industry trends, user experience, and safety/environmental standards.
- Perform structural, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and/or control system design.
- Conduct product research and define details for new products or improvements.
- Create, modify, and analyze engineering designs for assigned projects, systems, or components.
- Optimize designs for performance, cost, standardization, and manufacturability.
- Manage design records and engineering change notices.
- Participate in hands-on prototype builds, testing planning, and evaluation of test results.
- Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure successful product launches and resolve issues with Quality Control teams.
- Prepare manuals and assist Marketing with sales documentation.
- Demonstrate leadership within the Attachment Engineering team and cross-functional teams.
- Use 3-D CAD modeling and drawing creation (CREO).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A combination of 5-10 years of relevant experience in product design and manufacturing is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills applied to attachment or similar product design.
- Ability to work independently and contribute as a team member across Engineering and other cross-functional teams.
- Skill in transforming conceptual ideas into practical, manufacturable solutions.
- Strong communication and project management skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in CAD drafting/modeling; CREO preferred.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related experience.
Physical Demands
- Lift/carry up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Push/pull up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Reach overhead occasionally.
- Climb, squat, bend, or kneel occasionally.
- Sit, stand, or walk/move about frequently.
