About the role

Pelican is seeking a Project Engineer II to join our team in South Deerfield, MA. This role involves designing and engineering custom foam cushioning systems and shock-isolated structures for high-value equipment, working closely with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Turn customer challenges into engineered solutions
  • Design and engineer custom foam cushioning systems and shock-isolated structures
  • Define requirements, solve technical challenges, and deliver innovative solutions
  • Lead projects from concept through production, ensuring designs meet performance, manufacturability, cost, and timeline objectives
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, New Product Development, Test Lab, Tooling, and Production teams to support successful product launches
  • Develop testing requirements and validation plans to ensure products meet customer and industry standards
  • Facilitate engineering reviews, project meetings, and status updates with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Support manufacturing readiness, including material planning, scheduling, and production startup activities
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, new technologies, automation, and increased manufacturing capacity
  • Contribute to innovation efforts, including identifying patentable concepts and novel engineering solutions
  • Mentor team members and share technical knowledge to strengthen engineering capabilities across the organization
  • Support the continued growth and development of Pelican's rotational molding and custom packaging businesses
  • Maintain project documentation and ensure compliance with ISO quality standards

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Plastics Engineering or minimum of 7 years’ on-the-job experience in Rotational Molding plastic part design and/or processing
  • Eligible to receive information controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
  • Background in Lean/Six Sigma, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Solid Edge/SAP preferred
  • Moderate application skills and knowledge of plastic processing
  • Adequate writing and verbal communication/presentation skills
  • Good time and project management skills
  • Ability to work with minimal direction

Qualifications

  • Must be eligible to receive information controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)

Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • Experience with Material Requirement Planning (MRP)
  • Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma principles
  • Understanding of GD&T and FMEA
  • Proficiency in Solid Edge/SAP
