About the role
Pelican is seeking a Project Engineer II to join our team in South Deerfield, MA. This role involves designing and engineering custom foam cushioning systems and shock-isolated structures for high-value equipment, working closely with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
Responsibilities
- Turn customer challenges into engineered solutions
- Design and engineer custom foam cushioning systems and shock-isolated structures
- Define requirements, solve technical challenges, and deliver innovative solutions
- Lead projects from concept through production, ensuring designs meet performance, manufacturability, cost, and timeline objectives
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, New Product Development, Test Lab, Tooling, and Production teams to support successful product launches
- Develop testing requirements and validation plans to ensure products meet customer and industry standards
- Facilitate engineering reviews, project meetings, and status updates with both internal and external stakeholders
- Support manufacturing readiness, including material planning, scheduling, and production startup activities
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, new technologies, automation, and increased manufacturing capacity
- Contribute to innovation efforts, including identifying patentable concepts and novel engineering solutions
- Mentor team members and share technical knowledge to strengthen engineering capabilities across the organization
- Support the continued growth and development of Pelican's rotational molding and custom packaging businesses
- Maintain project documentation and ensure compliance with ISO quality standards
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Plastics Engineering or minimum of 7 years’ on-the-job experience in Rotational Molding plastic part design and/or processing
- Eligible to receive information controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
- Background in Lean/Six Sigma, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Solid Edge/SAP preferred
- Moderate application skills and knowledge of plastic processing
- Adequate writing and verbal communication/presentation skills
- Good time and project management skills
- Ability to work with minimal direction
Qualifications
- Must be eligible to receive information controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
Skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Experience with Material Requirement Planning (MRP)
- Knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma principles
- Understanding of GD&T and FMEA
- Proficiency in Solid Edge/SAP
