About the role

AVL Mobility Technologies, Inc. (MTI) is seeking a motivated Project Engineer II - Design to provide technical, program, and account management expertise to cross-functional business development and engineering program team execution activities. This role involves leading specific phases of projects, coordinating project meetings, resolving engineering and design conflicts, and owning system engineering tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and formulate workflow for self and others to meet specified deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Lead specific phases of projects, including technical studies, specification writing, and establishing technical plans.
  • Coordinate project meetings, design reviews, and sign-off reviews.
  • Resolve engineering and design conflicts.
  • Perform 3D/2D CAD design of components and assemblies.
  • Own all system engineering tasks, including:
    • Architecture and resolving design constraints.
    • Establishing interfaces.
    • DFMEAs and DVPRs.
    • BOM input.
    • Coordinating input from other skill teams (e.g., Analysis, Supplier negotiations, and lead-time planning).
  • Lead and author single-team proposals.
  • Provide engineering leadership to project teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design or an applicable field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in engine systems design or manufacturing processes (e.g., air system design, block/crankcase design, foundry practice).
  • Proficiency in at least one major 3D CAD software (Siemens NX preferred).
  • Fluent in PDM software (Teamcenter preferred).
  • Experience leading system engineering processes, including:
    • P-diagrams and boundary diagrams.
    • DFMEAs.
    • DVP&R.
    • Supplier negotiations.

  • Moderate Carrying: Transporting items weighing 15 to 45 pounds.
  • Light Lifting: Raising objects under 15 pounds.
  • Moderate Lifting: Raising objects weighing 15-45 pounds.
  • Heavy Lifting: Raising objects over 45 pounds.
  • Sitting: Sustained periods of time.
  • Standing: Up to 4 hours per day.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot, including long distances.
  • Hearing: Ability to detect specific noises, understand conversations, and operate equipment.

Mental Requirements

  • Comprehension: Ability to understand opposing viewpoints on complex issues and negotiate solutions.
  • Organization: Ability to prioritize and organize work schedules for others on a long-term basis.
  • Reasoning and Decision Making: Ability to make impactful decisions regarding department credibility, operations, and services.

    • Understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines.
    • Complete routine forms and conduct routine oral communication.
    • Compose letters, outlines, memoranda, and basic reports.
    • Orally communicate technical information.
    • Effectively use a telephone for clear communication.
    • Make informal presentations internally and externally.
    • Speak before groups.
    • Compose detailed reports, manuals, and publications.
    • Formulate complex and comprehensive materials (e.g., legal documents).
