Technical
- Performs engineering design tasks with limited guidance for up to level 2 projects.
- Performs engineering design tasks with guidance for level 3 projects and above.
- Conducts research.
- Build and debug engineering models.
- Review and understand data outputs from engineering models.
- Formulate and solve problems with guidance.
- Prepare drawings and visual aids with limited guidance.
- Perform construction activities with limited guidance for up to level 2 projects.
- Aid in construction activities with guidance for level 3 projects and above.
Project Management
- Review individual weekly project staffing report.
- Guide Structural Designer(s) with assigned tasks where appropriate.
- Communicate appropriate technical components and expectations with completion time.
- Understand the scope, project fee structure, and contractual obligations with clients.
- Bring work requested by the client that is outside the agreement to the attention of the Senior Engineer.
- Communicate with the internal Project Team and the External Design Team, and clients as appropriate.
- Communicate with Senior Leaders when the scope, complexity, or duration of the tasks assigned changes.
- Manage personal time to deliver on all project tasks assigned and communicate to respective Project Managers when there are conflicts or competing schedule demands.
- Understand and perform QA/QC protocol for all tasks for which you are responsible.
- Understand client service expectations.
- Understand key financial performance indicators for successful project completion, including on-time and on-budget objectives.
- Recognize and alert Senior Engineer if a project is potentially going off track and needs intervention to get back on track.
- Attend meetings with Senior Engineer to discuss active projects.
- Manage up to Level II projects.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify and recommend enhancements to operational procedures to improve efficiency.
- Gain understanding of organizational risk associated with technical, legal, and financial items.
- Develop Engineering and Drawing standard SOP with guidance.
- Participate in hiring interviews as needed and assist with training new hires.
- Train staff and provide guidance to Structural Designers.
- Participate in the performance review/feedback process, sharing feedback with leadership about team performance.
- Conduct presentations internally, including kick off meetings, and project wrap up meetings.
- Participate in presentations externally, including kick off meetings, and project wrap up meetings.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients.
- Understand how role fits into the larger strategic plan of the organization.
- Inform the leadership team about existing clients who may need additional services that the firm can provide.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- B.S. and/or M.S. Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering and/or Masters’ degree in Structural Engineering or 8 years of related experience.
- 4+ years working in the field of structural engineering.
- CA Professional Engineer License.
- LEED AP encouraged.
- Ability to lead by example.

- Interacts in a fun and collaborative manner with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and others.
- Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.
- Intermediate understanding of Enercalc, Bluebeam, Risa 3D, Google Suite, and Deltek VP.
- Gain understanding of Risa Floor and Risa Connection.
- Ability to use MS Office products.
- Member of SEAONC or industry related organization encouraged.
- Engaged in community service programs – helping to organize and lead initiatives.
- Ability to travel to other locations to work on projects as needed.
- Analytical and critical problem-solving skills.
