About the Role

The Project Engineer provides technical support and administrative help to Project Managers and the business unit as a whole.

Responsibilities

  • Provide sales and business development support, including assistance with design, material selection, estimating, and creation of proposals, scope letters, and contracts.
  • Participate in ongoing review, planning, and formulation related to the business unit, contributing to team strategies for achieving desired results.
  • Assist with day-to-day coordination and administration of projects, including:
    • Understanding project scope and managing budgets through value engineering.
    • Monitoring quality control provisions and coordinating work sequencing.
    • Issuing purchase orders, procurement, change orders, and contractor approvals.
  • Assist with procuring subcontractors and monitoring their work quality and schedule.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through continual communication on scheduling, project progress, and feedback on performance.
  • Attend jobsite visits, internal project meetings, and coordinate meetings, including tracking action items and follow-up.
  • Help ensure project performance, operations, and delivery comply with design and/or specifications.
  • Develop customer relationships to pursue long-term revenue opportunities.
  • Utilize company standard documents for business development, proposals, subcontracts, purchase orders, and warranties.
  • Confer with project managers and business unit leaders to resolve questions, complications, or problems.
  • Accurate daily time and equipment reporting.

Requirements

  • Project Engineer I: Entry-level role requiring a 4-year Engineering or Construction Management degree and 0-1 year of experience (including internships). Responsibilities include:
    • Providing information, coordination, and preparation support.
    • Assisting with data analysis and compilation.
    • Helping prepare estimates and inspecting work for compliance.
    • Building knowledge of company trade practices, job cost history, and contract status.
    • Developing skills in customer relationship management and quality execution.
  • Project Engineer II: Meets all Project Engineer I requirements plus:
    • A 4-year Engineering or Construction Management degree and 1-4 years of experience (including internships).
    • Serving as a project technical source and resolving questions or problems.
    • Coordinating project components, including budgeting, resource allocation, and schedule development.
    • Leading client relationship-building activities to increase business revenue.
    • Potentially running small projects or developing a book of business independently.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Skills

  • Strong technical skills, including experience with:
    • Project management, accounting, scheduling, inventory, and design software.
    • Document management, email, Microsoft Office Suite, and time accounting.
  • Excellent active listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong initiative, attention to detail, prioritization, and organization skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment.
  • Confident decision-making ability.
  • Ability to read and comprehend drawings and sketches.
  • Understanding of contract terms and conditions.
  • Ability to maintain technical expertise through continuing education.
  • Basic knowledge of construction and renovation, including materials, methods, and tools.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, customer service, and resource coordination.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to normal office conditions and outdoor weather (heat, cold, wet/humid).
  • Potential exposure to vibration, dust/fumes, loud noise, toxic/caustic chemicals, and moving mechanical parts.
  • Work in high/exposed places or near electrical shock hazards.

Equipment/Tools

  • Computer, calculator, tape measure.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE): hard hat, safety glasses, safety boots, Hi-Vis vest.
  • Clothing: jeans, appropriate office shirt.
