Project Engineer I
About the role
The Project Engineer I is an entry-level position responsible for supporting project teams with documentation, coordination, and administrative tasks. This role provides the foundational experience needed to develop a comprehensive understanding of commercial construction operations, including exposure to submittals, RFIs, project schedules, safety protocols, and quality control. The Project Engineer I works closely with field teams and subcontractors, contributing to project documentation and gaining essential industry knowledge.
Essential Functions
- Aid in the preparation and tracking of RFIs, submittals, and drawing logs.
- Support jobsite documentation and daily field reports.
- Coordinate with vendors and track material deliveries and lead times.
- Enforce safety and quality standards on site through regular inspections.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date document control systems including digital filing.
- Participate in project and subcontractor meetings, taking notes and distributing minutes.
- Aid in the creation of punch lists and completion of project closeout documentation.
- Represent White-Spunner Construction by promoting the company's mission to clients, peers and team members.
- Communicate the vision and purpose by consistently exhibiting servant minded actions in every aspect of daily functions.
- Build effective relationships with customers, design team, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meet or exceed the customer’s expectations.
- Participate in industry, client, and community relations to enhance company image.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Building Science, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field position.
- Internship(s) or Co-ops with a construction company desired.
- 0-2 years of experience in construction or engineering environment.
- Basic understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and terminology.
- Proficient in using personal computers and digital communication tools, including email, web applications, and Microsoft 365 suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Project a plus.

Working Conditions
- Normal professional office setting and some on-site field work.
- Evening and/or weekend work.
- Travel required. (Less than 50%).
Typical Physical Needs
- Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching.
- Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.
- Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports.
- May need to climb stairs, ladders and/or scaffolding and lift up to 30 lbs.
