About the role
Support company-wide efforts in stormwater management and drainage design for transportation related projects.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver industry leading stormwater management strategies for transportation projects, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines.
- Conduct drainage design activities, including the analysis of existing drainage systems, designing new drainage systems and ditches, and creating appropriate plans.
- Create and implement erosion and sediment control measures as necessary for the proposed improvements and create appropriate plans.
- Utilize hydraulic modeling software such as HEC-RAS to model major bridge and culvert crossings.
- Employ software tools such as Inletsoft, Pipesoft, Culvertsoft, to design and analyze inlets, pipe networks, and culverts.
- Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations related to drainage design and stormwater management, contributing to the project deliverables and progress reporting.
- Perform scour analysis.
- Perform field investigations to collect data, take field measurements, photographs, sketches, and verify surveys.
Requirements
- Minimum of Four (4) years of experience as a Civil Engineer supporting transportation projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) License or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
- Advanced knowledge of drainage design, H&H modeling and stormwater management.
- Proficient with industry software: MicroStation, HEC-RAS, SWMM, AutoCAD, Civil3d, InletSoft, PipeSoft, CulvertSoft, PondPack.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey technical concepts and collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Experience with OpenRoads Designer.
- Experience supporting VDOT and other local Virginia agencies.
Skills
- Advanced knowledge of drainage design, H&H modeling and stormwater management.

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
