Project Engineer I

About the role

This position collaborates with other line and staff functions for the Ludington Site, performing engineering work with minimal supervision at a high level of expertise in the project engineering discipline. It is eligible for the Alternative Work Schedule.

Responsibilities

• Provide attention to detail and dedication to ensure reliability of the work site and high-quality product.
• Ensure respect, support, and encouragement for yourself and others to grow and succeed.
• Manage the design, procurement, and installation of the Ludington Site’s capital projects within assigned scope.
• Direct the efforts of other engineers and designer/drafters toward completion of assigned projects.
• Utilize Subject Matter Experts in other engineering disciplines to successfully complete projects.
• Maintain close relationships with Operations, Process Engineering, Finance, Environmental, Purchasing, and Maintenance departments for efficient and economic project implementation.
• Minimize capital cost through design and selection of equipment and materials.
• Ensure design compliance with requirements of OxyChem, OSHA, EPA, and other governmental bodies.
• Apply sound engineering principles and the most effective technology in designs.
• Prepare or approve specifications, standards, engineering drawings, purchase requisitions, and purchase recommendations on assigned projects.
• Plan and develop schedules on assigned projects and assist in planning and scheduling the overall project workload of the department.
• Provide accurate cost estimates, spending projections, and cost control on assigned projects.
• Participate in department, site, and business-wide activities, including:
  • Assisting in preparation of the annual Ludington Site budget.
  • Leading the site cost control team.
  • Developing training modules for engineering and operations.
  • Assessing the feasibility of new products.
  • Assisting Technical Service & Development personnel in resolving customer issues.
  • Assisting operations in resolving quality issues.
• Approve and authorize capital and expense expenditures within limits of authority.
• Prepare AFEs for assigned capital projects.
• Coordinate information flow among other engineers, designers/drafters, and Ludington Site staff and support personnel for efficient implementation of assigned projects.
• Represent the department and company in dealings with government agencies, engineering firms, commercial suppliers, and other individuals on engineering matters.
• Provide liaison for Ludington Site on land and right-of-way matters.
• Maintain professional skills required for project management and design.
• Actively support and participate in teams or programs to continuously improve plant operations.
• Work collaboratively in a self-directed workforce environment; teamwork is essential.
• Perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
• Actively support plant and corporate HESS (Health, Environment, Safety, and Security) safety programs, objectives, and expectations; take leadership and accountability for HES&S performance on managed projects.
• Follow the Ludington Guiding Principles.
• Support the Food Safety Program and Quality Program; adhere to FDA requirements.

Requirements

• Graduate Engineer with 5-10 years of process engineering, project engineering, project management, and operations experience.
• Demonstrated engineering competence within the engineering discipline.
