Project Engineer (HYDRO)
BigLift Shipping B.V., member of the Spliethoff Group, is a shipping company based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. BigLift is a world leader in heavy cargo transport, operating a fleet of 25 state-of-the-art heavy lift and heavy transport vessels. Complex cargo operations in heavy lift, heavy transport, or offshore supply are day-to-day business. Two newbuild heavy transport vessels will come into service in 2026, expanding our fleet and operations. About the role
As a Project Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the preparation and execution of marine transport and heavy lift operations worldwide. You will work with a team of operational experts and fellow engineers to complete project preparations and on-site execution. The role offers significant autonomy to ensure project success, including arranging project-specific lifting gear, designing cargo support systems, subcontracting steel works, and overseeing delivery and on-site implementation.
With your specialization in hydrodynamics, you will serve as the primary contact for inquiries related to vessel motions during transport or operations, motion monitoring, mooring analysis, DP, and other hydrodynamic topics, particularly for unique offshore supply and installation projects.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and execute marine transport and heavy lift operations globally.
- Collaborate with operational experts and engineers to ensure project readiness.
- Design and arrange project-specific lifting gear and cargo support systems.
- Subcontract steel works and manage delivery timelines.
- Serve as the point of contact for hydrodynamic inquiries, including vessel motions, motion monitoring, mooring analysis, and DP.
- Support offshore supply and installation projects with specialized hydrodynamic expertise.
Requirements
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in marine or mechanical engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in the maritime or offshore industry.
- Specialization in hydrodynamics with experience in offshore installation and DP.
- Willingness to travel internationally and take responsibility for safe project execution.
- Ability to think creatively and apply engineering theories to solve complex problems.
