About the role

As a Project Engineer at Shook Construction, you’ll play a crucial role in transforming ideas into reality. Your work will directly impact how people live, learn, heal, and work.

Responsibilities

  • Solve problems and coordinate details to ensure quality and project success.
  • Support project management and direction, working closely with trade partners and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to estimating and purchasing activities, supporting the overall project budget.
  • Manage document control, ensuring timely and accurate handling of RFIs, submittals, change orders, and more.
  • Procure materials and coordinate logistics, performing onsite quality control checks, and implementing safety plans.
  • Lead project closeout efforts, ensuring all documentation and requirements are completed.
  • Mentor and support Co-Ops/Interns, fostering a collaborative and learning environment.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of construction experience preferred.
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Clear, concise communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to build strong relationships with clients and teammates.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook, with additional skills in Primavera/Oracle scheduling, Sage Timberline, AutoCAD, and Viewpoint being a plus.
  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, and a motor vehicle report required.
  • LEED, PE, and ICRA/Healthcare Construction Certificates are a plus.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to represent Shook at career fairs and recruitment events.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including safety guidelines.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook.

What You’ll Do

Operational Excellence:

  • Lead day-to-day project coordination to keep work moving smoothly.
  • Support site planning and update schedules to align teams.
  • Coordinate with trade partners to ensure alignment and project timelines.
  • Manage document control activities, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and more.
  • Procure materials and coordinate their logistics and management.
  • Perform onsite quality control checks to verify work meets project standards.
  • Implement and adhere to the onsite safety plan.
  • Support project budget development and maintenance, including managing pay applications and invoice tracking and approval.
  • Oversee start-up and commissioning to ensure systems operate as intended.
  • Lead project closeout efforts, ensuring all documentation, turnover items, and final requirements are completed.
  • Mentor and be a resource to Co-Ops/Interns, fostering a collaborative and learning environment.

Physical and Work Expectations

  • Driving to job sites, offices, client locations, and other work-related sites.
  • Light or low amount of physical exertion.
  • Overtime work as assigned.
  • Travel overnight as required.
  • Ability to work in environments that may be cold, hot, dusty, or loud.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including safety guidelines.
