Project Engineer - Flight Projects

We are seeking a Project Engineer - Flight Projects to join our team, contributing to exciting challenges for NASA’s pursuits in deep space exploration.

Responsibilities

• Develop project documentation and maintain status of drawings, procurements, and risks.
• Work with design teams and analysts to ensure project requirements are achieved.
• Inspect hardware upon receipt to verify match with fabrication drawings/models.
• Build test rigs and equipment as needed.
• Perform data analysis of test results.
• Assist project management with configuration control of project documentation.
• Develop test procedures, including working with various organizations across JSC for flight certification of hardware.
• Work with the ISS community, specifically the vehicle office, to develop integrated operation concepts (con-ops).
• Develop presentations.
• Work in a team environment, report to the team lead to provide status on progress and issues, and seek support as needed.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, plus five (5) years of experience in the field or a related area.
• Experience with the development of requirements documents, including functional requirements and verification success criteria.
• Experience with the design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of space hardware systems.
• Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field, such as mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, and design software and tools.
• Ability to prepare written documents and verbally present at various meetings.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
• Applicant selected may be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
• Work may involve sitting for extended periods.
• May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lb.
• Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary.
• Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
• Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
• Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
• Must put forward professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
• Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
• This position may require commuting and traveling to other installations as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in designing and building EVA-related unique hardware.
• Previous testing experience.
• Knowledge/use of CAD modeling software.
• Familiarity with machine shop techniques and processing hardware through the manufacturing process.
• Ability to perform hands-on test buildup, data processing, and documentation, including test plans and reports.
• Experience with NASA flight hardware certification process.
• Familiarity with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures.
• Ability to work independently.
