About the Role
The Project Engineer assists the Project Manager in achieving financial and schedule goals, ensuring a safe work environment, minimizing company risk, and delivering a quality product to satisfied customers. This hands-on, team-focused role spans all project phases from startup through closeout.
Responsibilities
- Assists with subcontractors and subcontracts, including scope review, internal requests, change orders, buyout, and communication.
- Manages the billing process in coordination with the Project Manager.
- Assists the superintendent with RFIs, research, subcontractor supervision, and permits.
- Coordinates and assembles project closeout documents, including warranty, operations, and maintenance manuals.
- Manages document control for RFIs, submittals, procurement, subcontractor change orders, correspondence, permits, drawings, specs, punch lists, as-builts, and reports in a systematic and traceable manner.
- Handles requests from clients, subcontractors, or superintendents, such as warranty work requests, drawing reading, and transmittals.
- Actively participates in the budget process, working with the Project Manager to manage and adjust project budgets and prepare necessary paperwork for monthly budget meetings.
- Coordinates with accounting for job setup, including pulling a job number, completing owner checklists, ensuring subcontractor pre-qualification, and setting up the budget and prime contract in Procore.
- Assists in preparing owner checklists, submittals, and coordination with accounting.
- Attends job walks (pre-construction owner, pre-bid subcontractor, and project progress).
Requirements
- BS or MS in Construction Engineering preferred, or a BS in Engineering with relevant experience.
- 3-5 years of construction engineering experience.
- Mechanical experience with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC).
- Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to work in a collaborative environment.
- Proficient in construction software (Procore preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Access to reliable transportation (required).
