About the role
Project Engineers at The Lee Company lead new product development from the initial product concept through the design, testing, and analysis process and ultimately into production. This position is responsible for working with purchasing and manufacturing on issues related to materials and production, and with sales to provide technical assistance to customers. Project Engineers are hands-on at The Lee Company as they are fully engaged in the prototyping, testing, and analysis of new products.
Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
- Strong mechanical inclination and a desire to pursue design engineering
- A desire to learn about new developments in the engineering field and an interest in following that progress through trade shows, professional texts, technical papers, etc.
Responsibilities
- Perform engineering duties and assignments that include product development, product support, and sales support.
- Analyze and interpret engineering data submitted for new products and for modifications affecting standard products.
- Modify designs using standard engineering practice to effect improvements and meet customer requirements.
- Instruct design and drafting personnel in the preparation of drawings, calculations, and specifications.
- Ensure accuracy of designs, dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, etc.
- Work with manufacturing to methodize production operations, tooling requirements, the feasibility of manufacture or sub-contracting, labor, and material cost estimates, etc.
- Confer with the Sales Department to assist in answering product-related technical questions.
- Oversee the construction, assembly, and testing of newly developed products.
- Devise test set-ups and evaluate test data.
