Project Engineer

Location: Newport News, VA | Reports to: Project Manager | FLSA Status: Full-Time / Exempt | Work Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Mon‑Fri

About the Role

The Project Engineer assists the company in meeting its objectives and goals by supporting the Project Manager and project team, overseeing and directing assigned commercial construction projects to ensure they are completed on time, within budget, and with defined resources. The role also helps maintain a safe working environment for all employees.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the execution and management of project contract terms.
• Prepare and present computer‑generated spreadsheets and reports.
• Perform QA/QC for project equipment, materials, and related document control and reporting.
• Adapt to and execute new software technologies for QA/QC record keeping and reporting.
• Maintain regular communication and collaboration with project superintendents on assigned job sites.
• Generate, maintain, and facilitate project documentation throughout all phases, including RFIs, submittals, plans, specifications, subcontract documents, purchase orders, and material orders.
• Demonstrate attention to detail, efficiency, and integrity in work product.
• Flexibly work at various project locations; commute to sites as required.
• Hold a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Attend and conduct meetings as required.
• Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience attaining Journeyman status.
• One to three years of experience in mechanical, plumbing, and/or industrial HVAC fields, or related internship experience.
• Familiarity with a wide variety of field concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
• Understanding of construction contract language and terms.
• Familiarity with the local market (desirable).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel; ability to learn industry‑specific software such as Constructware®, Prolog®, Helix®, etc.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis without employer sponsorship.

Language Skills

Physical Demands

The role requires regular sitting, seeing, talking, hearing, and use of hands to handle objects, tools, or controls. Regular walking, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling is expected. Occasionally, the employee may lift or move up to 25 lb. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Regular commuting to field locations is required.

7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
