Project Engineer

About the role

Support underground wet utilities projects such as sewer, storm, potable water, and related appurtenances. The role focuses on project documentation, helping with planning/scheduling, supporting field engineering, and ensuring work is built to specs, drawings, and standards.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings and specifications; assist with RFIs, submittals, and contract documentation
• Maintain submittal and RFI logs; track shop drawing review, approval, and distribution
• Provide planning inputs (e.g., look-ahead support and engineering-related documentation)
• Coordinate with field teams on quantities, materials, installation details, and documentation requirements
• Support QA/QC by tracking inspections, testing documentation, and compliance paperwork
• Assist with record drawings/as-builts and closeout documentation tracking
• Participate in project meetings; document and follow through on action items
• Communicate clearly with internal teams and external partners (as directed)

Requirements

• Construction documentation experience: drawings, specs, submittals, RFIs, closeout
• Ability to read and interpret underground utility plans and installation details
• Strong organization, attention to detail, and professional written communication
• Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with Heavyjob or Procore
• Willingness to work on-site as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• 3-5 years relevant construction experience with exposure to underground wet utilities (sewer, storm, potable water, and related scope)
• Experience supporting private commercial projects
• Familiarity with testing and inspection documentation for utility installations
• Working knowledge of scheduling or project tracking tools (Primavera, MS Project, or similar)
• BA/BS in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field

Job sites in the Greater Bay Area. Office support from Lathrop and San Ramon.
