About the role
The Project Engineer tracks and maintains records associated with costs, deliveries, payroll, and safety communications at the job site.
Responsibilities
- Safety
- Prepare and give weekly Tool Box Talks, Daily Safety Huddles, and maintain records.
- Maintain a file for One Call Center requests to ensure no utilities are damaged during construction activities.
- Maintain a retrievable filing system for the Hazardous Communication Program - MSDS.
- Maintain the Project Safety Manual, make periodic jobsite safety inspections, and record/file all findings.
- Perform weekly jobsite safety inspections and communicate findings with team members.
- Payments
- Perform daily Quantity Review with Superintendent and Job Foreman.
- Enter daily quantities into system and file daily sheets.
- Track completion of work on project plans.
- Perform monthly review of estimates with job Superintendent.
- Maintain a file for tracking all extra work.
- Notify Project Manager or Area Manager of anticipated overruns/under runs.
- Request a copy of Final Estimate with each monthly estimate and send to Area Manager - State DOT projects only.
- Daily Logs
- Maintain General correspondence file with correspondence log.
- Maintain Shop Drawing Log.
- Maintain Subcontractor daily log.
- Maintain Delivery log.
- Accurately track Asphalt and other major materials that are delivered verses the quantity paid for.
- Certified Payroll, EEO, Trainee Reports
- Enter daily payroll information by specific task and assist in productivity tracking.
- Track all subcontractors that worked on the project for the month utilizing the Subcontractor daily log.
- Submit copies of the Sub Log to Payroll monthly and notifying Area Managers of delays.
- Miscellaneous
- Maintain Job Records.
- Track Job Codes using Phase Code System.
- Maintain the Request for Information (RFI) to the owner.
- Assist in purchase of job materials to ensure the proper quantities are delivered.
- Review project plans and assist in ensuring work is completed properly.
- Assist with developing project look-ahead schedules.
Requirements
- B.S. Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with 2+ years of related experience.
- Experience in Heavy Construction (site-work, roads, or environmental).
- Capable of meeting deadlines, self-motivated, detail-oriented; above-average interpersonal skills and excellent follow-through capability.
- Verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Able to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment; accurately process written documents, perform duties in a timely manner, be highly organized, and interface effectively with company, clients, and field personnel at all levels.
