Project Engineer

About the role

Provide engineering services and technical support—including planning, design, inspection, construction management, and contract administration—for projects at the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission treatment plant and remote pump stations. Design and implement project plans, communicate directly with contractors and designers regarding project costs, oversee staffing and scheduling, prepare project status reports, and monitor construction to ensure adherence to contract specifications. Undertake system PLC/HMI programming and commissioning for control systems utilizing Rockwell, Allen Bradley, and Wonderware PLC and HMI platforms.

Responsibilities

• Manage large construction projects, preferably in a wastewater treatment facility
• Organize assigned engineering work and develop effective work methods
• Analyze, interpret, and evaluate engineering problems and apply appropriate solutions
• Apply engineering principles and techniques to work assignments
• Develop sound plans and recommendations
• Prepare clear, concise, and sound engineering reports containing findings and conclusions
• Direct other engineers, PVSC Operations and Maintenance Department personnel, and outside consultants and contractors to complete projects

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Systems and Control Engineering from an accredited college or university
• Minimum of five (5) years of related experience as an Instrumentation and Control Engineer, including experience working under the direct supervision of a Senior Instrumentation and Control Engineer for industrial, commercial, or public construction projects
• Solid working knowledge of SCADA, field automation, measurements, instrumentation, field communications, and the electrical trade
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position
• Good judgment and decision-making ability based on fundamental and practical knowledge of instrumentation & control engineering and related fields

Qualifications

• Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate issued by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors is preferred

Physical Demands

• Perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, climb (including ladders), kneel, lift up to 25 lbs., carry, reach, push, pull, use a keyboard and tools
• Hearing and visual acuity
• Qualify for and perform entry into confined spaces while wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including canister and dust masks, and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) in compliance with PVSC’s Facial Hair Grooming Policy

Working Conditions

Workers are employed in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system and will be required to work indoors and outdoors.

Pay

Expected base pay range is $112,126 to $154,439. The specific salary offered may be influenced by a variety of factors including relevant experience, qualifications, education, training, and formal credentials.
