Project Engineer

About the role

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) seeks an Assistant Civil Engineer to join our team. DEP is responsible for providing high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing pollution. The position involves working on green infrastructure projects, including asset testing, field inspections, contract plan reviews, and soil subsurface analyses.

Responsibilities

• Perform porous pavement asset testing and field inspections for Green Infrastructure.
• Prepare and submit reports.
• Review maintenance logs for porous pavement, geotechnical reports, contract plans and as-builts.
• Cookordination with Project Managers and porous pavement cleaning operators for maintenance.
• Perform inspection audits to measure proper cleaning during maintenance operations as well as contractor’s performance during construction of green infrastructure projects.
• Perform field visits during design, geotechnical investigations, construction and post construction.
• Perform desktop analysis using AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS software to analyze tributary areas and contract area boundaries for Green Infrastructure.
• Perform enforcement of compliance with the DEP sewer use regulations.

Requirements

• A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering technology and three years of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and a master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.

Qualifications

• Strong MS Office skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, and ability to comprehend maps, graphs, and tables.
• Basic AutoCAD, GIS and ArcGIS knowledge is helpful for this job function.
• Experience in green infrastructure performance as stormwater management systems, excellent communication skills and leadership skills.
• Detailed analytical ability, experience in the planning, layout and details of site civil drawings, specifications, and field inspections.

Skills

The Assistant Civil Engineer position offers a salary range of $66,330.00 – $76,279.00 per year.
