Job Summary
Key Responsibilities
- Incorporate and/or develop new processes or optimize existing processes which improve profitability, market share or generate new business.
- Lead material, product or process trials and commercialization efforts from concept to prototype to initial production.
- Work closely with R&D, quality, production and maintenance teams to ensure company objectives are met.
- Consult with manufacturing and customers as required for product design modifications.
- Document all trial plans, reports, studies, customer test runs, and other reports as required.
- Ensure processes comply with health, safety and environmental regulations.
- Use statistical tools (SPC, Six Sigma, QW) to support quality control.
- Provide technical support and training to plant operators and technicians.
Skills And Qualifications
- Expertise in a broad range of plastics material related process equipment used to manufacture them.
- Must have an in depth knowledge of manufacturing, quality and experimental (DOE) statistics.
- Strong problem solving ability, using research to guide and data to decide most economic path forward for new developments.
- Working knowledge of analytical and mechanical test methods used in plastics manufacturing (FTIR, DSC, TGA, mechanical property testing, etc.).
- 4 yr. B.S. Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial or Composite Engineering or equivalent experience preferred. Advanced degree preferred.
- 1-5+ Years of Experience in a process engineering or development role, preferably in extrusion.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills within all layers of the organization.
- Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams as well as independently.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and adapt to quickly changing schedules.
Other Duties
- Business travel as needed, not to exceed 20%.
Work Environment
- This job operates in a professional office environment and on the plant floor.
- Standard office hours: Monday to Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
- Work outside standard business hours as required.
Mental Effort
- Position requires high degree of analytical, problem solving and experimental ability as well as in-depth knowledge of plastics, additives and extrusion.
