Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

  • Incorporate and/or develop new processes or optimize existing processes which improve profitability, market share or generate new business.
  • Lead material, product or process trials and commercialization efforts from concept to prototype to initial production.
  • Work closely with R&D, quality, production and maintenance teams to ensure company objectives are met.
  • Consult with manufacturing and customers as required for product design modifications.
  • Document all trial plans, reports, studies, customer test runs, and other reports as required.
  • Ensure processes comply with health, safety and environmental regulations.
  • Use statistical tools (SPC, Six Sigma, QW) to support quality control.
  • Provide technical support and training to plant operators and technicians.

Skills And Qualifications

  • Expertise in a broad range of plastics material related process equipment used to manufacture them.
  • Must have an in depth knowledge of manufacturing, quality and experimental (DOE) statistics.
  • Strong problem solving ability, using research to guide and data to decide most economic path forward for new developments.
  • Working knowledge of analytical and mechanical test methods used in plastics manufacturing (FTIR, DSC, TGA, mechanical property testing, etc.).
  • 4 yr. B.S. Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial or Composite Engineering or equivalent experience preferred. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 1-5+ Years of Experience in a process engineering or development role, preferably in extrusion.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills within all layers of the organization.
  • Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams as well as independently.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and adapt to quickly changing schedules.

Other Duties

  • Business travel as needed, not to exceed 20%.

Work Environment

  • This job operates in a professional office environment and on the plant floor.
  • Standard office hours: Monday to Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
  • Work outside standard business hours as required.

Mental Effort

  • Position requires high degree of analytical, problem solving and experimental ability as well as in-depth knowledge of plastics, additives and extrusion.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; handle, or feel objects, manufacturing physical tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel; and talk or hear; and taste or smell.
