Project Engineer

Responsibilities
- Assists Project Managers and Estimators with analysis of proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents.
- Calculates complete takeoffs of scope of work.
- Compares and qualifies vendor and subcontractor bids.
- Provides engineering support for projects in various stages.
- Maintains construction files.
- Receives, reviews, forwards, and tracks status of submittals and change orders.
- Initiates, prepares, reviews, tracks, and distributes project documentation.
- Aids in project buy-out by generating Requests for Quotes (RFQs).
- Manages purchase orders, subcontracts, and submittal process to procure goods and services at competitive prices and in a timely manner.
- Coordinates with vendors and subcontractors according to project-specific purchase orders and subcontracts.
- Builds and maintains project schedules that provide clear direction for the project team.
- Enforces project standards.
- Identifies resources needed, procures project supplies & materials, and assigns individual responsibilities.
- Tracks subcontractor & supplier participation on projects, documents truck times.
- Coordinates scheduling with main office/dispatch.
- Mitigates risk exposure and promotes environmental health and safety.
- Supports the GPS/Engineering Division by building AutoCAD models of projects and assisting in GPS and 'intelligent' machine control.
- May work in conjunction with the Civil Construction Office Engineer, GPS/Engineering, and/or Superintendent roles.
- Ensures project documents are completed in a timely manner and submitted for processing.
- Documents all contract influenced information (i.e., change order management), tracking of measurement and payment items including quantities, LLC payroll, and change orders.
- Affords assistance in maintaining submittal management databases.
- Affords assistance in daily reports, JHA's, other required reporting.
- Affords assistance in invoice approvals/quantity reconciliations; provides monthly estimate preparation, cost and schedule reporting; communicates with accounting to facilitate monthly job cost.
Requirements
- High School diploma and four (4) years of relevant experience in construction field operations and/or estimating; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Must have excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word.
- Experience with estimating software such as Bid2Win, Agtek Earthworks, and AutoCAD is a plus.
- Must have or be able to obtain OSHA 10 certification (OSHA 30 is preferred).
- Must have First Aid/CPR certification.
- Must have or be able to obtain Competent Person, Excavation, Trenching and Fall Protection Certifications.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction of highways and roads, site work or other related fields.
- Understanding of estimating functions.
- Knowledge of civil engineering infrastructure projects, including paving, concrete, water, sewer, grading, drainage and other utilities.
- Ability to read and understand consultant drawings, blueprints, models, contracts, and reports.
- Excellent computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Excel, and Word, and estimating software.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and writing skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with attention-to-detail.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to promote a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and efficient resource utilization throughout our company.
