About the Role
A leading heavy civil contractor is seeking a Field Engineer to support construction activities on a major transportation infrastructure project. The Field Engineer will assist with project planning, field coordination, quality control, scheduling, and documentation, working closely with project management, field supervision, subcontractors, suppliers, and self-performing construction crews. Candidates with experience supporting structural steel fabrication and erection are particularly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Support project management and field supervision with daily construction operations.
- Coordinate and monitor subcontractors, suppliers, and self-performing crews.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and contract documents.
- Track project progress and assist with schedule updates.
- Complete quantity takeoffs and support project cost tracking.
- Prepare daily reports, production reports, and other field documentation.
- Generate and manage RFIs, submittals, and material tracking logs.
- Coordinate inspections with owners, engineers, consultants, and regulatory agencies.
- Support quality control activities and ensure work complies with contract requirements.
- Verify field quantities and assist with surveying and layout activities.
- Participate in project meetings and record minutes, responsibilities, and action items.
- Assist with procurement, scheduling, and delivery of materials and equipment.
- Identify potential construction issues and escalate them to project leadership.
- Promote and support project safety requirements and company safety programs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
- At least three years of construction experience.
- Experience working for a heavy civil or civil infrastructure general contractor.
- Project experience involving heavy civil, bridges, transportation, utilities, or comparable infrastructure.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
- Structural steel fabrication and erection.
- Knowledge of AISC standards and structural steel construction practices.
- Bridge, transit, rail, airport, marine, or tunnel construction experience.
- Experience with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Procore, HCSS, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or BIM platforms.
- Field surveying and construction layout experience.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or active pursuit of a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
