Project Engineer
Brief Description
Kinkaid Civil Construction is a 100% employee-owned, family-run heavy civil construction company specializing in underground utilities, earthwork, roadway construction, and site development. We are currently seeking a motivated Project Engineer to join our growing team in Mesa, Arizona.
About the Role
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and eager to build a career in heavy civil construction while supporting projects from pre-construction through closeout. This position works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, and owners to help ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to Kinkaid's quality standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Project Administration
- Aid Project Managers with daily project administration.
- Maintain organized project files and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Cover project correspondence with owners, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.
- Route contracts for internal and external signatures.
- Organize and maintain fully executed contracts within project files.
- Aid in tracking contractual requirements and project documentation.
- Contract Administration
- Coordinate procurement of Payment and Performance Bonds as required by project specifications.
- Maintain bond documentation and ensure compliance with contract requirements.
- Document Control & Submittals
- Prepare and distribute submittal packages.
- Maintain submittal logs and track approvals.
- Organize RFIs, project correspondence, and construction documentation.
- Ensure all project documentation is current and accurately maintained.
- Plans & Drawing Management
- Distribute updated drawings and plan revisions to field teams and subcontractors.
- Verify the latest project documents are being utilized in the field.
- Assist with reviewing plans and specifications for constructability and coordination.
- Subcontracts & Procurement
- Aid in reviewing subcontractor and supplier proposals for scope completeness and quantity accuracy.
- Support the preparation and tracking of purchase orders and subcontract documentation.
- Maintain current contact information for owners, consultants, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Field Coordination
- Perform routine project site visits to verify progress and support field operations.
- Assist with quantity verification and project documentation.
- Work closely with Project Managers and Superintendents to help maintain project schedules and budgets.
- Support problem-solving efforts between field operations and project management.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 1–3 years of experience in heavy civil construction, underground utilities, earthwork, or a related construction environment preferred.
- Understanding of construction plans, specifications, and project documentation.
- Experience reviewing plans and identifying constructability concerns is preferred.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT/FE) certification preferred or the ability to obtain; Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is a plus.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office; experience with construction management software is preferred.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and desire to grow within an employee-owned company.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to travel between project sites throughout the Greater Phoenix Metro area.

Summary
We offer a competitive salary starting at $65,000 DOE, benefits including an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) with company match, life and disability insurance, paid time off, paid sick leave, and paid holidays.
